Cavs really hit a home run with the Harden deal.

They basically added another core piece and high level young player for a late first round pick.

Now the Cavs have all these players - and each are either 22 or under

PG- Garland
SG- Sexton
SF- Okoro
SF- Porter
PF- Windler
C- Allen

right now Jarret Allen is:
11th in the NBA in rebounding.
He is 11th in the NBA blocks.
He plays less than 27 minutes per game.
He is 22 years old.
He is 3rd in the league in field goal % at 67%.

they added a high level young player for a late first round pick that has already proved himself and will only get better with more development and age.

Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Allen are 4 young guys 22 years old or less who are starting to form a very solid core for the Cavs.

The Knicks- if they hit home runs with their cap space- maybe they will have an argument- but at this point i would have to see it to believe it.

Toppin, Mitchell, Barrett dont come close to the Cavs young players at this point.
And whatever assets they could possibly get if they trade Drummond at the deadline. Don’t think it will be anything great + taking back hopefully a couple expiring contracts but they got Drummond for peanuts, literally peanuts out of a trash can

Eh.

The Cavs have more quality young pieces for sure. They have hit on most of their picks where the Knicks have missed on a few of theirs.

But the reality is that these 2 teams are in similar position.

Neither has a player with a projectable path to superstardom. That means both are trending toward being a 1st round playoff exit type of team.

The Cavs are closer and might even get there this season, but the Knicks are a player or 2 away from being in the same spot.

Kudos to Cavs management for getting them where they are. They have made some excellent moves in maximizing their assets. But to me it just underscores the disadvantages that small market teams face in the NBA.

Unless you hit the jackpot in the draft and land that generational star, your upside is likely capped.

How about now? It seems the Mobley selection and the growth of Allen and Garland seems to turn the tide. The Knicks have some nice pieces but Barrett hasn’t lived up to expectations. Knox was a bust and Toppin doesn’t appear to have much upside

Yes agree.

And you might have hit that generational star too.

I'd have to give the edge for the future to the Cavs. The Knicks are a little better right now, imo, because they have a little more experience. However, they also have just about hit their ceiling with the current roster.

The Cavs ceiling is yet to be determined. But as is, it's definitely higher than the Knicks.

If you could take 2 players off either team- wouldn't they be Mobley and Garland?

Randle has really become very good though. 20/10/5 is no joke. His efficiency is way down this year though. 43.4% from the field and 32.2% from 3. Compared to 45.6% from the field and 41.1% from 3 last year- 24ppg last year.

I would say Allen would be next.

1. Mobley
2. Garland
3. Randle
4. Allen
5. Barrett
6. Okoro
7. Toppin
8. Markkenen/Fournier are pretty comparable.

I think we are at the start of the Thibs decline. It is inevitable that it happens, but this one felt like it appeared a bit faster than normal.

I’ll take the Knicks because they have Barrett and randle and a chance to land a star due to their location.

CLe needs to either Marshall their assets and trade for a Ben Simmons or hit the lottery luck…again

Garland and Mobley have more star potential than Barrett. Randle could very well have hit ceiling already...very solid player.

It seems like we have been hearing this for decades now...Knicks will land a star bc it's New York. Still waiting...yes, Randle played like a borderline star last year and they have a solid roster around him bc of FA moves but it all depends on Barrett and he just doesn't seem to be the guy they thought.

Knicks used a lot of their cap space on Randle, Fournier and Rose too. They wont have max room this offseason. The following offseason they will though.

Plus they have to re-sign Barrett as well who will get a raise

plus Burks and Noel are both on the books next year for about 20M combined.

is a core of Randle, Fournier, Toppin and Barrett - and Dolan as an owner going to attract a big time star?
