Interesting decision between McCown and Cutler as Chicago looks to overtake Detroit in NFCN. Regardless of which QB they go with it's a tall order, but I'm inclined to think that McCown gives them a better shot. What do you think?

Ok that's insane IMO.

Really? I guess you put more weight on Jay's history of clutch performances than you do on how well McCown has played the past month.

Cutler. He was playing well before the injury. He has all the physical talent in the world. I don't get why people discredit him so much. I guess his personality rubs people the wrong way.

I agree. Given that you're a Lions fan, however, I can't help but wonder if your answer implies an ulterior motive. : ninja :

That's my honest opinion. I feared that Chicago would stick with McCown last time they faced my Lions a month ago. My fears were in vain. Chicago started Cutler. He gutted it out long enough for his team to lose. (McCown nearly led Dabears back when given the opportunity). McCown has touch on his passes I've never seen from Cutler. (Jay obviously has better arm strength). Saw it several times to Jeffrey tonight. High, catchable passes that IMO Cutler doesn't make. My dream is that Chicago comes back to Cutler at some point this season and then for some wild reason franchise tags him.

I suspect that plays a role. At the same time, some folks might also put some weight on his career 155/134 TD/TO ratio.

Why? What has Cutler done that has earned him the starting nod? At some point natural, physical talent doesn't outweigh production. (And yes, I understand Dallas is absolute garbage defensively.)

He hasn't exactly had great talent around him. Since he got Marshall back his numbers have been much better.

We're talking about Josh McCown here. He isn't even a starting caliber QB. I don't care about a month-long stretch of play. Lots of crappy QBs have had good months.

Jay Cutler is going to get a ton of money in the offseason because he's worth it. If Josh McCown were a FA in the offseason he'd be lucky to get a backup job somewhere because NFL GMs have longer memories than a goldfish.

IMO he's the second worst veteran starter in the NFL. Again, I hope Chicago franchise tags him.

Because his mental talent is nonexistent. He's football retarded. I don't care how physically talented he is if he doesn't understand the game.

Point taken. Still, I'm not so sure that McCown is a "crappy QB". For example, I recall hm playing really well when he got his chance on a bad Raiders team a few year ago. I've also been quite impressed by how smart he's played this past month.

Not claiming that I know with certainty, but I think that Jay's attitude, regardless of his superior talent, dooms him to lose. McCown, in my opinion, is much smarter and gives his guys a better chance to make plays to win.

And yet he went to Vanderbilt and his best receiver said he's always the smartest person in the room. He does have a bit of a Ryan Leaf type personality, I'll give you that.

If he understands the game the only explanation for the level of football retardation he has consistently shown is he can't handle even mild stress. Put him on the field down the stretch and he will lose you games.

Smart? Funny how you ignore the fact that McCown should have been intercepted about 6 times the last 2 games. Did you not see all the dropped picks by Dallas tonight? McCown is very careless with the ball, but keeps getting away with it. Talk about lucky!!

Cutler had only 8 INTs on the season before he got hurt, and several of them were on unlucky deflected passes. He was playing GREAT. Going into the Washington game where he got hurt early in the game, he was 3rd in the NFL in total QBR. Playing hurt in the Detroit game lowered his ratings, along with Jeffery dropping 2 TD passes. Hilarious that people are questioning a guy that was playing like a top 5 QB before he got hurt.

Jay's attitude has been terrific since Trestman took over. Not a hint of a problem and everyone was raving about his leadership before he got injured. McCown's biggest supported? Cutler. They are very close friends and Jay pushed for McCown to be the backup.

Trestman says Cutler has exceptional football intelligence. I'll take his word over yours.
