The NBA wouldn't let the Celts do that, they allowed a pick to go through but not a player.

I don't believe there's anything on the books for the NFL to prevent it, but I don't know that for sure. I know that when McDaniels was hired as Patriots' OC, he brought over a sizable number of Rams players (Lloyd, Hoomanawanui among them). I'm fairly sure he did the same thing going from NE to Denver. I don't remember if any were trades.

Does McDaniels actually like Mallett? I know he's been coaching the kid, but does he like him? I know the Browns' GM loves him and I'm sure that's why this discussion is picking up steam, but we have no real way to gauge McDaniels' interest, it's not like he drafted the kid.

I think you're overreaching for a 1st...If I didn't like Bortles likely the 3rd QB off the board) I would call WAS and move one of the 3rd rounders for Cousins, and I think they will bite.

Then he doesn't move. That's fine.

But having him as a backup for an extra year is significantly more valuable to New England than #26.

The Browns GM loves who Mallett or McDaniels? And as far I know it's only picking up steam on this board.

That's debatable I think given he doesn't have many snaps in real games, but I get your point...knows the system and that alone counts for a lot.

Basically, if Brady misses 2-3 games next year, Mallett could be the difference between making or missing the playoffs. Obviously if Brady is out for the year they're screwed (unless he's the second coming of... Tom Brady), but if it's something he'll recover from, you need a quality backup.

Who would we pick up that we can reasonably rely on to go, say 4-2, over a 6 game stretch if Brady gets a short term injury? I'm not throwing away a season for a late first rounder. We don't know how many years Brady has left and you have to give yourself every shot to win it all every single year.

Now for a 4? Yes. With clowney on the board? I'll throw a pick or two back.

But a 26 doesn't do it for me. And I get that my price is high. But New England doesn't need to move him.

what about ryan mallett and #32 for cleveland #4 and we draft Jedevon Clowney DE. crunch the numbers krafty. imagine jones and clowney on the ends.

briz has the Lombardi in the case already :-)

They signed Ninkovich to a four year deal so with BB drafting to build a T-E-A-M , I'd expect to see someone to help off the edge later than that if they got up to #4. It's only one mock but Walter has five QBs, two WRs and one OT going in the top ten. They could get excellent value in the middle of the draft if it lines up like that by the time May rolls around. It would be a good year to trade down from the looks of it if they got their hands on #4.

That being said....Clowney and Jones would be a nightmare for a QB!

Mallett is a FA after next year, right? So, if he's not traded this year....he can walk with no compensation? The Pats wont franchise him. Mallett would be an idiot to not try to get a starting job elsewhere.

Maybe O'Brien loves Mallett and trades us the #1 overall pick for him. LMAO. That's for you Briz.

We run enough different looks that Nink could still have a very good impact back to OLB. Or even put clowney at DT in a lot of looks and really tear shit up. Nink - Clowney - Wilfork - Jones don't look bad.

I agree, I don't know if BB would though. He seems to like Nink a lot and probably wouldn't look at DE as a big need.

Ok so call it a huge UPGRADE and take Clowney if you get the chance Bill....

cousins sucks mallett is the heir apparent to the greatest qb ever tom brady hes been groomed and nurtured to take the throne of new englands dynasty. pocket passers are what you want not these scrambling qbs mallett is a pocket passer with the strongest arm ive seen. mallett to gordon deep would be sick. like a laser show.

Mike Lombardi likes at least one of BB's former QBs...he signed Hoyer this year.

He can have another...

There isn't the slightest chance that we're getting Clowney. Not the slightest chance. You can quote me on this.

On I absolutely agree with that. Just saying if we got in the situation he doesn't get passed up.
