Anyone know what the latest news on these two defenseman? I've heard St. Louis, Colorado & the Islanders for Souray. Mainly because all three teams have the cap space.

I haven't heard or read anyting new on Kaberle.

on Souray

Right now, Edmonton has $50.4 million committed to 23 players, which includes youngsters Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson and Linus Omark — if they all make the club. But this doesn’t include restricted free agents Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano, Gilbert Brule and Jeff Deslauriers, who need to be signed. Brule and Deslauriers are both going to arbitration early next month, unless they sign new deals first.

There’s not a big market these days for Souray’s skill-set — big shot, big minutes, toughness — because he has two years left on his deal. His tough style of play, which has resulted in injuries (wrist, shoulder, concussion and hand), has also scared off a few teams.

The Oilers’ best bet is to move Souray to a team that is long way from the NHL required cap floor of $44 million. The Atlanta Thrashers have $36.2 million committed to 15 players. The New York Islanders have $36.5 million for 21 players. The Colorado Avalanche have $38 million for 20 players, and the St. Louis Blues are at $40 million for 20 players.

But those teams might also want Tambellini to include a younger player in any deal.

Please not San Jose.

I have heard both mentioned in passing but I think that Souray's contract makes that a non starter.

Kaberle is the one that worries me. I have seen rumors of Clowe/Seto for Kaberle. I would hate to lose one of those guys for a one season rental (who is pretty much the same player as Boyle). I think that he has even said that he wants to stay in the east.

My bet is that both stay where they are. I can't really see anyone taking Souray on unless the Oilers throw in an incentive to take on the contract and I don't see Burke getting a top six forward for Kaberle unless a team is very confident that they can resign him.

Please not San Jose.

The only way I'd want him on the Sharks is if the Sharks were able to claim him on re entry waivers (which I doubt would be very likely). Other than that I agree, pass.
