Sure, anything is possible.

I give it about less than a 1% chance that he signs up to play for Pittsburgh ever again, though.

Mario and Shero never said it, but I think they felt burned by Jaromir's choice of signing with Philly, last season. I don't see them rushing to lay out the welcome mat for Jags to come back and play for the Penguins. Nor do I see them entertaining the thought of him retiring as a Penguin.

from a lot of the stuff i read the pittsburgh media slaughtered jagr for no good reason really.. i read somewhere that the pens offered him 2 or 2.5 for a year, he said no, both parties moved on.. the pittsburgh media made it out like he was sitting in shero's office negotiating at midnight and then the flyers called, he put them on speaker phone, and verbally agreed to a contract with them

i think it was a pretty run-of-the-mill free agent signing that the pens media butchered him on

i dont think he'll play for pittsburgh again either.. but i think it'll be more his decision not to, moreso then the pens decision.. not that the pens FO is to blame, the media just handled that poorly

and while the flyers did offer more money, i think he went to the flyers because he had a chance to play a big role for them.. in pittsburgh he was going to be at least 3rd fiddle, probably 5th or 6th in all likely-hood.. whereas in philly he had a chance to be the #1 guy, or at the very least #2 with such a young team.. consequently i think that's the reason he WONT sign with philly this year, even if the money is the same.. he said he wants to talk about his role, wants more pp time, and wants to be on the top line.. i think the flyers are ready to build their first line of the future with giroux, hartnell, and jvr or voracek

While I don't expect you to sympathize with the Penguins organization, or their fans... for obvious reasons... there is something to be understood, here. I think the media just took what Jagr said while he was still in the KHL as gospel. The guy said if Lemieux called him up and asked him to play at the league minimum, he'd think about it.

Mario and Ray called him up and asked him to play for them at a compensation of a little over 2 million, which just happens to be a little more than the league minimum. Jagr said he had to think about it... and we all know how the story ends.

To say the pens media were responsible for the fallout wouldn't be telling the whole truth. They were just reporting on what the man said. The ball started rolling on a possible JJ/Pens reunion because of what Jagr said. It turns out that wasn't really what he meant.

Suffice it to say, ownership was probably a little miffed about it at the time. I doubt they harbor an ill feelings toward him, today. At the same time, I don't expect they'll be rolling out the red carpet and the fine wine from Mario's cellar if Jags comes calling, again.
“I was thinking about it and if Mario would call me and say, ‘I’d like you to play for our team,’ I would think about it a lot,” Jagr said in a telephone interview from Moscow where the Kontinental League will hold its inaugural All-Star Game outdoors at Red Square Saturday. “I would play for the minimum salary. I would play for $350,000 just for him because I owe him my hockey life. I want to pay him back because he has made me what I am…besides my parents.” From Ken Campbell’s Blog at The Hockey News

Unfortunately the problem with all of these teams is defense and/or goaltending, but I'd love to see him in Edmonton, NYI, Tampa Bay, and one that doesn't fit that mold, Detroit.

heh, pretty telling quote there.. i can definitely see why it was taken the way it was.. and i'm not saying jagr is a saint, i just dont think he was in it to screw the pens over, the way some of the fans/media convey the story.. i think he wanted to come back to the NHL and that comment was probably related to hoping someone would offer him something.. the flyers came in with a better opportunity (salary and ego wise) and he took it.. IMO he basically got skewered for being a standard athlete these days.. aside from hines ward there are very few people in pro-sports that would do anything to play for the team they love (love hines ward for that btw)

not saying pittsburgh is the only place where that would happen.. if philly fans didn't run every player out of town and were actually put in the same situation, i'm sure we'd try to skewer the player too

I don't blame Jagr for taking the extra million. Hell, I'd do the same!! Although, I probably wouldn't start the negotiations out by telling my potential employer that I would do the work compensated at minimum wage... not a very smart negotiating tactic :loco:

I think that Jagr, Selanne, Lidstrom, Alfredsson and Brodeur all end up with Columbus.

Funny, considering last Summer he signed with a team whose captain is a jackoff puck-thief who spends less time defending the net as he does impregnating local weather-girls. A man so oafish, his status for each game ranges from healthy to injured to suspended to "can't be around bright lights" to incarcerated to "dead by slapshot." A player as inconsistent as the infamous #1 draft pick Alexandre Daigle, he takes the ice under a complete binary divide as either the best defenseman in the world or an absolute joke of liability with 25 minutes of pylon-hockey, 20 minutes on the bench, 10 minutes in the box, and 5 minutes in the dressing room trying to fix the gap in his teeth.

Not everyone is as big as a fan of Chris Pronger and you and I are.

BTW the mods frown on using 'ur' and the like here.

Get well Chris Pronger!
