SMH. It looks like the reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated.
Yes, on that rare occasion that Ryan Howard gets a bat fully square on a baseball he can still hit it a long ways. Given that he has no batting eye and thus little ability to lay off of curves outside the zone, those times are few and far between.
Blind Squirrel??
pwned
I'll give you $200 every time Howard gets on base, if you agree to give me $100 every time he makes an out....since I was "pwned" so badly.
You and your quasi-intellectual hobnobbery....what really sickens me is that you get away with it!
Since the beginning of July, Ryan Howard has 18 hits in 105 ABs and 12 walks, he has hit 3 HRs and 3 doubles, and has struck out 30 times. This is a tremendous .171/.256/.286 split over this time, but you feel justified in saying people were "pwned" saying he was crap because he had 1 good game over the past 6 weeks? 1 good game from Ryan Howard does not mean he is good, it means he had one good game. 6 weeks of being a horrifically crappy player (on top of the 3 years previous of being below average at best) means he is a crappy player. 105 at bats is a small sample size, but certainly a helluva lot more telling than 6 at bats in one game (or even 10 at bats over 2 games). Face it, Ryan Howard is one of the, if not the, worst first baseman in baseball. His performance in 2006, 2007, and 2008 cannot change that fact.
While I agree largely with what you're saying here, he's actually still been fairly productive FOR A 1ST BASEMAN this year. Not excusing his crap play or his pis poor attitude of late but it seems he's not alone in the sucking thing.
Of the 22 qualified first basemen this year, Ryan Howard is one of three with a negative WAR.

Sabr metrics can suck it.
12th in HR, 8th in RBI's, 11th in walks, 11th in runs. He's still playing like dog shit, but I'd still say he's not the worst or even bottom 10.
He's 2nd to last in AVG, 3rd to last in OBP, 2nd to last in SLG% among qualified 1st basemen.
Easily among the 10 worst.
A large reason he's got as many RBIs as he does is because he has the 2nd most RBI chances in the majors this year.
