Seems fair. What a brutal ending for his game back against his old team.

Kirk seems to be struggling this year after coming back from Injury.
His contract kinda dictates he be the starter for these two years.
Will the Falcons make it just a partial year?
Thats the real Question.

He’s middle of the road. He’s not terrible and he’s definitely an improvement from the god awful QB play the Falcons have had the last two years, but he’s never going to lead a team deep in the playoffs or be a top tier QB, and he’s struggling with turnovers a lot right now. I hope the Falcons make Penix their QB in 2025, because I think he’ll be stellar and can lead us further than Cousins. I certainly don’t hate Cousins but he’s never going to make a team a serious contender.

He can help Penix growth off the field as well. How to prepare, act etc....
I think Penix sitting a year (or even if just most of one) can only help him succeed when he does play.

Yeah that’s why I’m fine with selecting Penix and having him sit this year but I hope he is our starter next year.

Penix sitting a year absolutely had to happen. He had the best arm of the draft (not just strength but accuracy as well), hands down. And he was probably the most athletic QB - maybe with exception of Daniels. That's something you can't teach. But his decision making and outside the pocket play needed a lot of work. And not to mention the guy just needed to spend some time NOT playing competitive football to just let his body rest... he had a ton of injuries in College.

I found it amusing that just because UW lost the national championship that everyone all the sudden had him dropping into the 2nd round. Him going top 10 was not surprising, it was just the fact the Falcons had paid Cousins, seemed to be in win now mode with a crap division, and then drafted him. But I don't think the Falcons will regret it in a couple years, that is if Penix can stay healthy.
