In reading many other teams postings, as well as our own I've noticed that sometimes there are conflicts in the particular metric used when determining whether or not a team is improving.

Some make the comparision between previous versions of their own team, while others measure themselves against teams that are currently where they wish to be. To be sure you always look at yourself first, but given that, at some point in an competitive environment such as the NFL, there must come a time where competing against others will tell you just as much or more than those inward looks.

I always look to see if our team is heading in the right direction. I want to see if the culture is healthy. Is there backstabbing? Are things from the locker room leaking to the press? Win total. Things like that. But you bring up a good point. When you see a guy like Zimmer come in and turn that Vikings team around. It makes you wonder. Norv I'm sure is a big part of that, but that's on the head coach as well. Surrounding himself with the right guys. Ownership plays a big part. Dan has finally gotten a football guy in the building. I think it's a little bit of both. The Skins arrow is pointing up, but other teams have made bigger strides in less time.

Has Zimmer really turned the Vikings around though? Sure, record-wise the Vikes have already won one more game, 8, than they won all last year, 7. And they are neck n neck with GB right now both at 8-4 and competing for the NFC North crown. But Teddy B looks to have regressed to me and while I can't say that he has w/o a shadow of a doubt. He's only thrown 8 TD passes so far this year. Last year w/o AP the Vikes finished 28th in the league in team passing, 202.8 yards game, which one could see as understandable considering TB was a rook and they ended up having AP for only one game last year. This year with AP all year and him being his normal beastly self. The Vikes at present are next to last in team passing with 179.1 yards per game. Something isn't adding up for them or doesn't appear to be.

And it doesn't seem as if AP is backing off from his "we were out-coached." comments either. Leaving one to wonder how that's gonna turn out.

There's only 3 legit teams in the NFC this season. The Panthers, Cardinals and Seahawks.

I hear you, but look what Lovie is doing in TB. Look at the impact Bruce has had in Arizona. Andy Reid has the Chiefs rolling. O'Brian has the Texans playing really good football. If Romo doesn't get hurt our season would have been over weeks ago. We can't let the Cowboys misfortune cloud where we are at.

The best metric is the eye ball test.

Alright Gke.......tell us.... what do your eyeballs tell you about how our team is doing internally and againstvthe competition?

I will tell you about units and my eye ball test.

QB- KC is coming along nicely. He does play too conservatively at times and we can't know if that is unwillingness to take a chance or not seeing the players coming open. In his first year as a starter, he will set records for the Skins. Over the last six weeks, he has four games without an INT and 4 games at 100+ rating. The two games below 100 were NE and CAR. One thing we need to see growth on is blitz identification and adjustments.

OL- on an individual basis, we look very solid with the exception of center. Honestly, we didn't look too bad there until Lichtensteiger went down. Center is possibly the most I,portent OL position even though most would say LT. Our run blocking has been pretty bad but with a small sample size, it didn't look bad until Lauvao went down. Our major problem is blitz pick up and stunt pass off which is not surprising considering the youth.

RB-made by OL. I have been most impressed by Thompson.

WR- we know what we have in Garçon (overpaid) and DJ (talented head case). I have been very impressed by our young WRs though. I think Crowder is number two among rookies in catches.

TE- Reed is ultra talented and an impossible match up. He will be a pro bowler if he becomes a D in blocking.

DL- hard for us to really judge as casual observers because it is a gloriless position. To my eyes, they are doing their job pretty well. They may be able to disengage a little better but they are pushing and occupying blockers.

OLB- improving. RK has looked good the last few weeks and Murphy has been acceptable. Smith is a pass rusher but needs to be able to push Murphy for more PT next season.

Secondary- shockingly decent especially with the injuries. We may have found a gem in Dunbar and Blackmon is playing the best football of his career.

ILB- ridiculously bad to the point of laughter. Honestly, Mason was as good as I saw this year last game.

Ya got yerself a pretty good set of peepers on ya bud. A most agreeable evaluation with just a couple of things that we could quibble over. No real point in doing so at this time because most have already been said and done. Thanks, really appreciate it!!!

Yes I do, in fact there was a lot of agreement between us on that score and without a doubt this organization is far from where they were before the new hires and personnel changes. A much improved front office, improvements in personnel doesn't always translate into immediate success on the field. The thread topic was presented more specifically with the team in mind than the organization that supports it.
