I'd still rather us get an outfielder for him but beggars cant be choosers at this point.

Franklin went yaya today in an intrateam game....lets make sure he doesnt beat out miller before dumping him.

Does his hitting ceiling project higher?

well in his spring training debut Franklin went 2-3 with a homer so this will definitely increase his trade value

or increase his staying value. Why can't he play LF with Ackley? That could be a nice platoon and he could relieve Hart when his knees start barking.

maybe for a front office out there with the collective iq of a rock

performance in 1 spring training game is meaningless

i hope he has a solid spring training and that it's enough to get something decent in a trade

yea the more I think about it the more I'd rather hang onto him then ship him for an unknown pitching prospect. At Franklin has proven he can hit a little bit at this level. Whose to say whatever pitching prospect they would require would amount to anything.

Plus I just dont trust Z to make trades:doh:

At this point I don't know if Franklin will be traded. Earlier in the offseason I was convinced Franklin would be traded when Cano was signed.

That said I am glad Seattle is asking for a lot for Franklin they should and if they don't get what they want then don't trade him. I still think he can be a very solid MLB player.

Absolutely. Personally, I don't care if they trade everybody as long as they get top return for each player. To give one away just because of their position is blocked makes little sense. With that said, Jack will probably trade him for 50% value at another position.

Jack Z is the master at that kind of trade.

Exactly, he is "blocked" at 2nd. But neither him nor Miller are gold glove shortstops so need for Jack to trade him for an unknown commodity. Let Franklin and Miller play for SS in spring and the loser heads to Tacoma. Can't think of the last time some prospect went to Tacoma and actually lost trade value with his performance.

The Mariners are again doubling down on the number of scouts they have at today's Mets game, [ame=""]tweets[/ame] Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. Rubin adds that Seattle's scouts have "been religiously attending Mets games." New York has been said to have interest in displaced Seattle infielder Nick Franklin, so Mariners scouts could be trying to determine a fair asking price.

I don't get even the idea of a trade for Franklin. His potential upside is much greater than any trade that the M's could get back for him considering any team that phones Jack has all the leverage in the world against him.

That is the scary part, just exactly what are the M's getting in return with Jack pulling the trade????

As much as i like franklin and trust me im a fan what are we going to do with him? can is a 2nd, miller is at SS and seager is at 3rd. Granted this is jack z were talking about and his resume of trades have while being our GM hasnt gone in our favor BUT in a perfect world I would trade franklin for a SP or OF prospect

Yes, IF you could equal talent for him at either of those positions which I for one don't trust Jack in getting.

At this point, just put him in AAA and hope he hits .300 and builds his value for later. I doubt you will find a trade that makes sense before the season.

Probably true, but remember when we turned down offers for Ryan Anderson, Jeff Clement, and Antonio Perez (host prospect after we got him from Cinci in Griffey trade)? All kept in minors to grow value but decreased value instead and no trade value was ever received for them. Not saying you are wrong because I tend to believe the same way, but remember there is always risk when you do that including loss of value if player fails.

But don't give him away for pennies on the dollar just because there isn't an open spot for him right now at his young age. If he can hit like they project, why not make him our 1B? Take him over Smoak at this point.
