What type of reception

does Sergei Gonchar receive tonight from the Pens faithful? I'm gonna go with mixed, they'll be some cheers, but a smattering of boos will be there as well.

I plan on wearing my Gonchar jersey tonight. No sense in booing him, then again me and my son are probably the only people in the arena who didn't boo Jaromir when he came into town either.

It didn't seem like a very ugly separation. Gonchar wanted a little more term, Pittsburgh didn't want to give it to a guy that old, so they went their separate ways.

For some reason fanbases always seem to look for excuses to boo former players.

Replaced Van with Edm and the answer would be pretty much the same...I don't mind Van as much as the majority of Flames fans (the Vancouver guys on this board are all good eggs).

If I were going I would give him a standing ovation. Seriously...he deserves it. He's a huge piece from the Stanley Cup team, he has nearly 50 playoff points as a Penguin, 200+ regular season points, he helped Geno acclimate to a new country, culture, and language, he housed Geno, he was a leader on the team, he played injured in the ECF and Finals in 09...the man did plenty for this team and this city, he deserves nothing less than applause. Anyone who boo's him doesn't understand the circumstances very well.

I'd be surprised to hear any boos to be honest. It was time for Gonchar to go, but he was still a beloved player throughout his time here.

he's been a key piece of a lot of successful years in Pittsburgh.
Was basically offered a deal he couldn't refuse.

reminds me of when Jovo left Vancouver for Phoenix.
throwing that much money at him, who could blame him for going?

Mi padre is heading to the game with mi madre tonight (his birthday present...first game we haven't gone to together ) so I'm DEFINITELY telling them to stand and cheer. Gonch deserves it...although, I must say my dad HATED HIM Gonch's first year (well...a lot of Pens fans did)
