I dont know as a Rangers fan I cant think of many numbers that need retiring maybe Jeff Beukeboom, Im hoping guys like Callahan and Lundqvist end up with their Jerseys in the rafters but that is not for many years.

getting off track now (I remember that game well)

Maxime Ouellet had to be the worst goalie we ever picked up in our history. I remember seeing this guy suit up for the canucks and before each start he would hunch over and look like he was going to pike on the ice. he was like he was having cramps being nervous for warmup. I remember the game vividly against Edmonton (was that Crows last year?) and legend has it that the canucks and oilers had a verbal agreement that both would play the backups as they both had back to back. well edmonton changed their minds and poor Ouellet was thrown to the wolves. holy shit he was terrible. he was going down when they were crossing the blue line.

I say retire everyone from the 1993-94 team, Matteau certainly deserves a belated retirement ceremony.

1994 Stanley Cup Finals - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A couple of interesting things here.

First look at the "Finals Appearance" number. Pretty impressive that the Nucks were that inexperienced against that experienced of a team and nearly pulled it off.

But this really struck me:
When the New York Rangers submitted the list of names for engraving, Ed Olczyk and Mike Hartman were included, although they fell short of the official requirements of 41 regular season games, or participation in the Final. When the Stanley Cup was engraved, Olczyk and Hartman's names were omitted. (Olczyk had played 37 regular-season games and one game in the Eastern Conference Final. Hartman had played 35 regular-season games and none in the playoffs.) Both players had spent the entire season with New York, and missed extensive time due to injury. At the Rangers' protest, the NHL added Olczyk and Hartman to the Cup. The NHL no longer adds missing names after the Cup has been engraved, though it allows teams to petition for the inclusion of players who do not officially qualify.

Eddie O's name is on there. And it shouldn't be. Yet anther reason to hate that twat.

If Hank even wins a single Cup I'm fine with his number going up, considering the announcers already call him the best goalie in the entire world...

Eh, I'm fine with it being on there if its due to injury, but not for healthy scratches.

It says he was in one game in the conference finals. That indicates to me it was healthy scratch.

I hate him plenty just because he's called "coach" on NBC(SN). Yeah, failed season and a half warrants that. "Eddie, you coached Sid for a few months...you were his first coach...hey Edzo, you coached Fleury for a millisecond, what's going through his head right now?!" That and Pierre's clearly buried feelings for the man. "RIGHT EDZO?" Like a dog looking for confirmation from a master.

LOL.

This is all spot on.

It really is painful to watch at times.

On the plus side, they don't make us call Mike Milbury "The Manager." ;)

Should have been clear that it was for regular season games, sorry.

Not as bad as the "career" Melrose has made out of his few years of being able to say "Gretzky - get out there. We need one""
