It's considering changes to its conference championship game because SMU had to sweat it out during the CFP announcement. They're considering...

-Giving the regular season champion a bye and having teams that finished 2nd and 3rd play in the CCG.
WHAT?

-Have the top-4 teams play the final week of the regular season...1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd with the two winners meeting in the CCG.
How in the hell would that work?

This is all dumb as hell.

I'll say it again. The ACC Championship Game was unnecessary. SMU (11-1, 8-0) was the only team in conference to run the table. But, they want a CCG to make money so, they'll just have to eat it if things don't go their way.

with where CFB is going, I'm questioning whether any conf. should have a CCG............

The ACC will likely be losing FSU and Clemson soon. That will probably trigger a few other teams to jump to other conferences.

This just looks like a desperate conference to me. They definitely do not want to become a one playoff team conference, and it seems they are heading that way, although maybe Belichick can revive UNC quickly.

It's a good question. The conference system is fundamentally incompatible with the CFP system. The conference system only recognizes conference games; the CFP recognizes all of them. The CCG adds a game to some CFP teams and not others.

The problem is that only 12 teams actually participate in the CFP. That leaves 122 teams with nothing, and the conference championship is a big deal for them.

FSU went 2-10 in the ACC. They might want to get their act together on the field before they even think about going to the SEC.

Suppose the #2 team in the ACC looks like they'll make the 12-team playoff but not the #3 team in the ACC. If the #3 team would beat the #2 team, that's not going to impress the playoff committee and might have only one ACC team make the playoff, right?

This is why CCGs need to be retired. It makes no sense for a 12-0 or 11-1 to play a "prove it" type of game vs a 9-3 team. But, we know that they only have them for $$$.

This is why you, fortunately, aren't in charge! That game WAS necessary!!

SMU lost to team #17 and was undefeated vs teams ranked lower than that.
Clemson lost to team #18 and was undefeated vs teams teams lower than that. BUT, Clemson played #5 Georgia and #12 South Carolina (teams SMU avoided). Without those 2 games Clemson would have had ONE loss also. When they played, Clemson was the better team!

Hey, welcome to the discussion...3 months later.

So, your logic is to include two SEC teams Clemson played when this a topic regarding the ACC Championship...okay.

Here's what counts.
(8-0) SMU 34, Louisville 27
Louisville 33, Clemson 21 (7-1)

You don't think I'd do a good job being in charge?
I'm sorry to hear that.
