I always thought the weirdest drafting teams as of late have been the Titans and Jaguars.

When I was a kid it was the Chargers, Cardinals and Lions and between now and then it was the Seahawks, Titans and Raiders.
Raiders and Mike Mitchell might be the use case study

The Penix pick actually might well be a very good decision for the Falcons, it was their FA QB signing that wasn't.

Raiders and Mike Mitchell might be the use case study

Yeah, Mitchell was an odd oe.

Funny story. I had a Raider friend who was connected to the Raiders draft. He told me before the Raiders pick "We are taking Mike Mitchell", I was like yeah right... Whatever, this guy is full of it... I was in an AIM draft chat with a bunch of then KFFLERs. I told them.. "Watch this the Raiders will draft Mike Mitchell", keep in mind, Mitchell was not on most people's top 30 S's going into the draft, let alone a second rd pick. Low ad behold, Mitchell pops up as the current selection on the screen. The AIM KFFL chat was going crazy, how did I know that? ;). He made me famous. These guys still talk about it to this date...

You could pick a lot on the Raiders.

Mitchell, Ferrell, Arnett, Leatherwood, Heyward-Bey.

To me Alaualu is the wildest one of my time but the Raiders have the most. Arnett and Leatherwood really stand out to me. Two guys I don't think anyone should have sniffed until Round 3. One with character issue who played more like a 4th rd pick who was likely going Rd 3 based on post season stuff. Leatherwood had a ton of talent coming out but he played like a 5th rd pick in college.

People are getting too hung up on position over BPA.

Draft- BPA
FA- Need

Draft has to be a little bit of a combo of course.

I don't think any NFL team should or does go into a draft saying "We need a DL in our first 3 picks or we need 2 RB's in the first 4 rounds...

It might be a hope of course.
Listen to DC, people. Instinctively, you know he’s right. Paton probably has a trained eye on expiring contracts next year, too. Think 3D!

We are expressing our opinions, thats what this place is for. And there's plenty of them as to who and why a position is drafted, and where.

And yes, some teams draft for bpa. Most teams draft a hybrid of roster need and bpa. Then there are terrible teams or front offices who sign a hundred million dollar qb in FA only to draft a qb out of the blue in rd 1.

The fact that all three exist make all opinions valid.
He could add to his POM total right here. Silky.
