This one is from MH64:

20. Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan
51. TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State
85. Barrett Carter, LB, Clemson

I prefer this over yesterday’s combo. I think prioritizing TE and RB over WR is vital. I think we get more out of our receivers if we have a legit TE who is a receiving threat and a RB who is a legit threat to break one open.

I'd rather go DT in the 2nd, or even DT in the 1st if we're going RB in the 2nd.

I guess I'm thinking if you go TE in the 1st then you're getting one of the top two at the position. If you go DT in the 2nd then you're getting one of the top 5 DL. RB in the 3rd gets you one of the top 10 (or higher) in a deep class. Maybe.

Agree with Listo. Id rather go deeper in the draft with RB since we're likely to address it more than once and its deeper than any other position. Id love a DT/DE or safety in rd 1 or 2.

Thats said, Id love the first 2 rds.

Seems like a need draft but with that said, if the board fell this way I wouldn't be at all upset. I think Carter has a ton of physical talent to be a standout three down ILB and would be a great value in the 3rd round.

The nice thing this year more than any recently is that the depth of the draft lines up great with our needs. Might as well get the eggs on sale!

People are getting too hung up on position over BPA.

Draft- BPA
FA- Need

Draft has to be a little bit of a combo of course.

I don't think any NFL team should or does go into a draft saying "We need a DL in our first 3 picks or we need 2 RB's in the first 4 rounds...

It might be a hope of course.

I’ve heard that from you before! ;)

Not that I disagree, but if the best value in round two is a QB, I kinda doubt that it will be our pick. Payton has already listed our must haves, wants, and luxuries (something like that, you get the idea). I doubt we get all the must haves in FA, so there is certainly going to be BPA and Need combined. i know you said that, but it’s why you will see most mock drafts having a TE in the first three rounds.

Right. That is why I said it has to be a little bit of a combination. Some common sense plays in. :)

Again, there is nothing wrong with the positions people are wanting but this talk of "Would rather a DL in Round 2 then a TE and then a DL in Round 3 over a RB" or whatever is just not how the draft works. Drafts go with value/need combination and sometimes not even need in a few cases. No team says "Round 2 we are taking a "DL no matter what is on the board, even if the DL is our 8th best rank player left". You have to combine value and need.

We are expressing our opinions, thats what this place is for. And there's plenty of them as to who and why a position is drafted, and where.

And yes, some teams draft for bpa. Most teams draft a hybrid of roster need and bpa. Then there are terrible teams or front offices who sign a hundred million dollar qb in FA only to draft a qb out of the blue in rd 1.

The fact that all three exist make all opinions valid.

and I am expressing my opinion too.

FA is for need.
Draft is for value.

Obviously, you have to combine value/need with the draft in most cases. Day 3 that is pretty much thrown out the window though. Teams follow their overall draft board for the most part. Obviously, the first couple of rounds you aren't going to draft a position you are deep at but you are also not going to draft a player you don't rank high just because it fills a position. I mean really, what the Falcons did was smart with Penix if they liked him that much and it appears they did do the right thing with Cousins turning out a dud last year.

I always thought the weirdest drafting teams as of late have been the Titans and Jaguars.

When I was a kid it was the Chargers, Cardinals and Lions and between now and then it was the Seahawks, Titans and Raiders.

Lol, when I gave my Penix example I was trying to think of a jags draft where they went off the wall but came up with Penix first.

Tyson Alualu might be the most surprising top 10 pick, at least of my time.
