Ok now we are talking. If we have a non-QB draft please oh please let this be what happens. Two guys that I think could develop into stars in the NFL by year 2 or 3 of their contracts.

Looks like 2 reaches to me, although Phillips has been going all over the place in mocks. Wouldn't mind a trade down if these were the picks.

Talent wise he is easily a top-10 player in this draft. It all comes down to his medicals and whether those concussions are a concern. He could be best pass rusher of this draft and a true game changer or out of the league in 3 years. If I'm taking a defensive player though he is probably the guy I lean towards.

Phillips has that type of special ability that is for sure...

I think he has about as good of tape as anyone on the defensive side of the ball if we look at just this years tape.

I'm just not sure about Phillips' health. Didn't he retire from football a couple years ago? I hate to say it, but it seems like he is a good candidate to have a short career. But I am sure our medical team would do their diligence if he was on the radar.

So it was a forced retirement. UCLA has a rule that after 3 or 4 concussions you must retire from sports. They will not let you keep playing at their university.

He took a little time away to reevaluate what he wanted. When Miami called he said that it really awoke that fire to play football again. Said that when some of his school classes would get in the way of football he changed up his entire schedule to make sure football was his priority.

Oh there is. Unfortunately all the top defensive players have some major risk associated with their name except maybe Patrick Surtain.

Phillips--Injury history even beyond the concussions
Parsons--Off field concerns, maturity issues, and sat out a season
Farley--Injury concerns and of course sat out a year
Rousseau--Could have been first defensive player taken if he didn't sit out this season and repeated his success from the year before

The last one is the primary reason (for this year only) it’s a real good idea to trade back. Plenty of other players in Rousseau’s boat Through the first two days of the draft.
