Except every season the cap goes up considerably.

Take a look at percentages of the cap...not the number.

Again, this is nothing new. People overpay in FA as long as the market bears it. The cap goes up every year so our judgement of an overpay changes annually.

Just like last season, we had people crying over what we paid the Mac boys and this season we are amazed by receivers getting large pay days. That is why I pay a little more for what I hope to be unrealized potential with youth.

Yeah it is the reason a lot of think FA should be supplement your team and not build it. The day 1, 2, 3 guys get overpaid. Of course they set the bar for the future also. How many WRs who are way better than Watkins, Richardson or Grant are at home thinking .... "man I am under paid."

Lot of folks dont realize that when free agency was originally conceived, the owners wanted it to start after the draft. Can you imagine how that would change the game?

Instead of teams worrying about who they could or couldnt resign, and what these guys would cost against the cap. Imagine teams using most of the off season to prep for the draft, then Free Agency being a month later. You would have teams waiting to see what they got in the draft, then deciding if it was worth it to keep a certain player, or try and sign guys whos contract expired from another team.

That would change the entire landscape of the NFL.

For better or worse?

I have always found the timing to be a bit backwards. I wonder if the draft can take place a few weeks earlier like early April or if that is something that would be non negotiable.

Its something the players union would never go for at this point. Think for a moment, if say the Redskins had had the option to go into the draft, and maybe draft a QB before deciding on Cousins at all over the past few seasons? Or if these teams paying big money to D-lineman over the past few seasons, had a shot at drafting a Brady Chubb, or one of the other sud D-lineman BEFORE committing guaranteed millions to either their own, or other teams free agents. In the end, it would lower the money players get across the board, because it would give teams leverage to say, sure we want to keep you, but we just drafted your replacement.. so you can work for what we offer... or you can take your chances else where. Teams would put more stress into the draft as the primary team building tool.

Flip side is, you would get closer to what the old NFL was, where guys were drafted, and alot of times retired from the same team. Which wouldnt be horrible.

So basically it would improve the league haha

yeah but here is the kicker as well . the skins just gave up on a 2nd rounder TM , a 3rd rounder long a 4th breeland and ryan grant a 4th add to it fuller , a 3rd and a future 3rd we dont know what might have been

but over and over our team develops good young talent , then watches them leave so another team reaps the rewards of these guys entering their primes while we chase 34 yr old qbs and 32 year old CBS

all of the above free agents could have been extended and guess what ? , despite what dean says other teams VALUE THEM and pay starter money for them

what do we get in return ? some comp picks that dont equal the picks we spent on them and then we develop them only to see them walk

this is what pisses me off about this front office and why we will never win as long as we do business this way

and i didnt even mention KC

Ok I bite you hear me say this before skinsdad you don't keep players just to keep them those players fill up a roster if you sign TM to 5 year deal then TM takes up a spot and you can never get someone better same with grant same with breeland ...Stagnent .. now with TM gone lets say chubb or skins draft davenport whats better preston smith and TM or chubbs and preston smith etc etc let me ask would you weather have wr Richardson or Grant??? I have told you time after time redskins biggest problem is Stagnent everybody laughs at me.. I will be laughing at all of you soon book it... then you will come back and say well what happens if we can not find nobody better then Grant or TM or Breeland thats crap talk because when you say that it's like your saying TM is the best Grant is the best Breeland is the best ..dont you want good players damn!!

So we couldn’t have used that first rounder on a DT/DE, S, RB, WR and kept TM? You see...other positions need to be addressed. If we keep creating holes by allowing our guys to leave, then do we ever get better?

what you call stagnet i call continuity and why not keep young talent for 5 years through their athletic primes ? a smart person turns over older players to keep from remaining stagnet not giving up valuable contributing assets

that is just plain dumb
