Depends. How deep are your WRs? If your talking WR4 I'd take a chance on White for his upside. However if your talking WR3, you go with safe and take Tate.

Guess I need more context. I love Kevin White, but remember, he's still gotta go through his rookie year. He may be a second year player, but has yet to set foot on the field against any NFL DB. So if this is a year to year keeper, be slightly way, if this is long term keeper, or dynasty, go for it.

Wouldn't give a squirt of warm recycled Coors Light for Golden Tate

Foot, you know that I have little respect for rookies. And as Treff said, Kevin White is essentially a rookie.

That said, I'm not thrilled about Golden Tate at all.
I think the loss of Calvin Johnson is huge. You just can't replace the caliber of player of Megatron with anyone.
I feel Tate will be up and down all season. Some good weeks. Some bad. Some meh.

Locally, they're reporting that Cutler and White have been working out together this off-season.
Meanwhile, Alshon Jeffery is training elsewhere and did not attend OTA's.

At the risk of sounding like this is homerism, I think White is the player to have.

Tate was a monster anytime calvin was out. WHite could be anything. He was great for one season. He reminds me of Devin Thomas .....Just my opion

I'm curious as to which games SP is talking about?
I'm looking at last season's weekly stats and Tate only had 2 games I would consider monsters (week 14 & 15) where he averaged 17.5 points in both games.
The rest of the year he averaged 5.4 points each week.
His best season was 2014 where Tate had over 1300 yards. (Calvin missed 3 games that year.)

I could be wrong about Tate. I admit it.
But Tate would have to be on the board a while before I considered drafting him.
He just strikes me as a CJ?K type. One great season, and the rest of the time, hoping he duplicates that season.

remind me later im about to walk out the door and ill break down my thoughts.......I very well could be wrong too, however, im mainly a PPR player....which skews my opinoons at times and I forget we usually are talking standard scoring. In my PPR league its 1 ppr so a guy who catches 8-9 balls for 50-60 yards nets me 13-15 points.
Vice versa A guy who catches 4 for 90 yards gets me 13 points.......in standard scoring the former is the lesser player, to me hes the better player.

Your right, he had two big games and a couple others that he put up 10 points. However he's definitely going to be a starter and opportunities to build on that. He's depth for a FF team. White is a ?. Nobody knows if he'll start for sure or how he'll do. Basically a rookie that seems to have upside.

After relooking I revoke all comments on tate.

It was the fact that I was thinking ppr and his 90 catches made him great.

I think Steelers PPR comments are very relevant here
However being Dynasty I would rather take a stab at White's potential long term gain for the cost of an unpredictable Tate type player

Tate is a good player in PPR. He is a high end WR3.

White may or may not live up to his potential, but he could be elite.

I would lean toward White because I am not sure how many more years Tate has to be fantasy relevant. Tate will almost surely outscore him this year, but I am very confident White will be better in 2018 and beyond. What if White turns into the next Hopkins?

I would happily deal Tate for White. Just be prepared to live with the short term consequences.

You were right though.

I hate Golden Tate, but can't deny that in 2014 he was huge with CJ out. And I'm counting the games where CJ dressed and was only used as a decoy as out. CJ being gone and the dude from the Bungals being in doesn't change my expectations level for my least favorite Lion ever.

Longterm, White has more potential. I doubt his production is anywhere near Tates this year though.

I've said my piece on Foot dealing Donald, this addition doesn't change where I was coming from.

White is still the number 2 target on his team and no guarantees. WRs come along every year so no need risk it. White may not even be the same player when he comes back. Too many ifs there. Hang on to Tate for now and scope out other Rookies in the next year or 2 for a replacement. At the very least Tate looking like a star in 2014/2015 when CJ was injured or out. Lions offense was in turmoil back then too with Lombardi running that group. JB Cooter should have them back on track.

On the flip side, the Bears defense will have them playing in catchup mode so there could be more balls to go around in CHI and Bennett is gone so the potential is there. Just not enough to offset the risks though IMO.
