Now more than ever....

All babies together, everyone a seed
Half of us are satisfied, half of us in need
Love's bountiful in us, tarnished by our greed
Oh, when will there be a harvest for the world?
Yeah, yeah, yeah

A nation planted, so concerned with gain
As the seasons come and go, greater grows the pain
And far too many feelin' the strain
Oh, when will there be a harvest for the world?
Yeah-yeah, yeah

Gather every man, gather every woman
Celebrate your lives, give thanks for your children (oh!)
Gather everyone (gather everyone), gather all together (gather all together)
Overlooking none (overlooking none)
Hopin' life gets better for the world
Yeah, yeah-yeah, no

Dress me up for battle, when all I want is peace
Those of us who pay the price, come home with the least
And nation after nation, turning into beast
Oh, when will there be a harvest for the world?

When will there be?
I wanna know now, now
When will there be (harvest for the world) a harvest?
When will there be (harvest for the world) a harvest?
When will there be (harvest for the world) a harvest?
When will there be (harvest for the world) a harvest?
When will there be? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be? (Harvest for the world)

Everybody (harvest for the world)
Eh, talking 'bout the children (harvest for the world)
When will there be (harvest for the world) a harvest?
When will there be? (Harvest for the world)

Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun
With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done
The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day
So he set out for Biafra to join the bloody fray

Through sixty-six and seven they fought the Congo war
With their fingers on their triggers, knee-deep in gore
For days and nights they battled the Bantu to their knees
They killed to earn their living and to help out the Congolese

Roland the Thompson gunner
Roland the Thompson gunner

His comrades fought beside him - Van Owen and the rest
But of all the Thompson gunners, Roland was the best
So the CIA decided they wanted Roland dead
That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen blew off Roland's head

Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Norway's bravest son (to even up the score)
They can still see his headless body stalking through the night
In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun
In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun

Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in
He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun - he didn't say a word
But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg

Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Talkin' about the man
Roland the headless Thompson gunner

The eternal Thompson gunner
Still wandering through the night
Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley
Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it

Sir Robin Of Camelot

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

First heard this one while in England when it came out. My memory of it will always be coming back to the states and going to a buddy’s house after a good night of drinking. Was looking forward to a nice, fat doobie after 3 months of nothing but hash in England. Buddy pulls out this album and tosses it on the turntable, then lays on the cover a chunk of hash that damn near covered Petty. I just looked at him and asked “Man - don’t you just have a fucking joint?”

Great album.
