he would never make it in the NFL
he would never make it in the NFL
It literally makes no sense to me for the Pats to resign this guy. I know Boston sports fans fall in love with players that have done well, ala Deion Branch's short return. But if you look at it from a business stand point with no name recognition this is what you have:
34 year old
Several concussion issues
Lack in speed/agility
Lack in needed skill set(2 players on the roster with the same skill set)
The list goes on and on. Terrible decision if it's made by New England.
The way it does make sense is a team friendly deal.It literally makes no sense to me for the Pats to resign this guy. Hope he can avoid concussuions, but if not place whoever you would've had on the roster back in his place.
He was probably still is one of Brady's go to guys and friend.
His skills are pretty much where they were when he left the Pats.
He knows the system.
Would make an incredible 2 slot WR/2 TE Set. What defense could contain Welker, Edelman, Gronk and Chandler + whoever else they want to put with that package.

May sound funny but give me an honest answer on who can contain those 4, + either a 3rd down receiving back or a Lafell type...?You just rattled off 4 white WRs/TEs and asked what defense could possibly contain them. Just sounds funny...
Not sure I agree that his skills may have declined that dramatically? He had Peyton hanging him out to dry across the middle. Peyton also started targeting his other toys more. Taking attempts away from him. Welker was, and still is a nobody till the Pats system made him. So I believe he still could be effective? Not 100 catches good but still productive?I'm sorry. Not only have his skills declined dramatically he likely doing great physical harm to himself permanently.
Good point. Edelman is starting to get abused going over the middle and taking all those hits. I like it. Sign him today. Can't be any worse then Amendola?Edelman can use a back up or rest him a down and put Wes in

It's the type and quality of players. Two quick slot receivers who are extremely difficult to cover and work extremely well with their QB. Two 6'-7" fast, blocking TEs with great hands and excellent speed. Don't forget tge 5th WR/TE or RB that will need to be accounted for. So I ask again, name the D that could stay with that group? Is that better than the average NFL team has? One top player plus 3?
Who is the one top player? Gronk I presume? So a slot receiver that is averaging 90+ catches a year is mediocre to subpar? Is that better than the average NFL team has? One top player plus 3?

So this makes Dez and every other receiver on Dallas mediocre to subpar?
