Just a bullshit thread, was wondering what some of our posters do to pass the time as far as fun or recreation time.

I gave up watching baseball many years ago (I know we have some fans here) I live on the waterfront and love to walk a lot. I'm looking into getting a nice bicycle to do a lot of riding. I need to select a good one because of my back problems. Also will be having surgery on both wrist probably next month.

Basically this should fill my void before the NFL season starts. I'm a big football fan but not optimistic about the Bills this year but am in the next few years. They have a lot of youth and a coach that I really like so far.

What do my fellow SportsHoopla brothers and sisters do?

I spend a lot of time on bicycles. Mountain road, and yes... BMX, much to my doctor's dismay. I buy and restore old ones too. Gotta have something to do when it's raining.

Other than that do a lot of wandering around hiking trails and playing golf. Try to get to stick and puck once a week. Anything to spend more time with the kiddos.

You can probably pick up a decent one at a bike shop for 400 or so.

Stay away from the ones in Target an Sports Authority because they have junk components and in 3 years you will have spent the difference in tuneup costs. Go to a shop and get an entry level bike is my advice. More cost up front, but cheaper to own in the long run.

A local shop (not a chain) will also have a network of riders and might be able to help you find a decent used one too. Might be a little older, but will have good components. 95% of the people on bikes have no need for the latest technology.

Go to Burt's Bikes in I think Hamburg. Great bike shop. Pretty good prices and great staff. As 43 said, avoid places like Target etc. Go to a place that specializes in this area.

I'm prepared to take the family down the Chatanooga for a white water rafting vacation. Should be a good time.

My kids keep me fairly busy during the summer. I spend plenty of time by my pool too. I do watch some baseball but rarely a whole game on TV. Taking my twins to Fenway on Friday this week.

Hey Boss, isn't the wing Fest coming up in the near future?

I think that's Labor day weekend. Just checked Aug 31 - Sept 1st. http://www.buffalowing.com/c-23-events-schedule.aspx

OK, Thank You sir.

There's another place right in the Village of Hamburg called Eric's Cycle Works. Never shopped there myself, but some friends have and say good things about it.

Summer is actually my busiest time at work, so that's where a lot of my time will be spent. On the road a lot.

Otherwise it's mostly gardening and landscaping for me. Bought a new house in October. Previous owners over-landscaped to a RIDICULOUS degree. Spending my free time either trying to tame or remove.

Sine we're talking upstate bike shops, can anyone let me know of any small town shops that have been in business for a looooong time?

When I travel I like to visit old shops and ask to dig through their old stock. I sometimes find some real gems and hard to find old parts. I will be upstate end of July. Between Ithaca and Rochester, then over across the falls into Canada.

same question for Western Ontario, actually.

Rochester has a couple of really nice bike shops. I'm trying to remember the names? I haven't lived in Rochester since '04, but I know the places i mentioned are still around. If you take I90 via NYS Thruway get off the Rochester exit furthest east. The place I'm thinking is right on the canal. Beautiful place and it's apptox 5-10 minutes from ST. John Fisher College ( Bills training camp), it's in Pittsford. The other place I was thinking of is in downtown Rochester on University Ave and Culver.

What do you mean NOW that the season's over? It's been over since late April! I mean, that's gotta be why the Flyers didn't go to any sort of playoffs, right?

I guess Boston started the post season right after game 6 ended..

Chart: Boston turns to **** after Game 6 loss in Stanley Cup Final - CBSSports.com

For many die-hard fans of the sport, hockey is their mistress. It is something to escape with for a while, have some fun with and experience the ultimate thrills.

When the mistress lets you down, you apparently can just turn to, you know, ****ography.

That's the conclusion from a study of the metrics done by the good folks at the adult website ****hub.com. They decided to take a look at their traffic on Monday night in Boston and Chicago. Wouldn't you know it ... between the hours of 8-11 p.m. ET, the site's traffic was down in those two cities from normal levels. Perhaps it had something to do with a certain hockey game between the Bruins and Blackhawks?

Interestingly, when the game ended around 11 p.m. ET, something funny happened. The people in Chicago were busy celebrating their second Stanley Cup in four years, so traffic stayed down. But in Boston? Obviously, it skyrocketed from people looking for a ... relief.

This is what the press release from the site had to say:

Last night marked the end of the NHL Championships, and much like the NBA Finals did, the battle for the Cup managed to take users away from their beloved **** once more. Until, of course the end of the game marking the Bruins' loss, which saw all of Boston turning to ****hub to take out some of that pent up aggression.

That's right -- the statisticians at ****hub.com carefully analyzed each hour of the game to track traffic changes in Chicago, Boston, and across the US by the hour; comparing each location relative to the rest of the country.

Yup, that really happened.

Well, there is one takeaway that we can seize from this: hockey is better than ****, but only until you lose the Cup. Yeah, that's it.

I've got a town for you my friend. It's East Aurora NY about 20 SE of Buffalo easy to get to. They have an original five and dime store and a place called the Roycroft Inn. You could easily spend the whole day in that town. Very cool! Here is the site to Vidlers Five and Ten store. Welcome to Vidlers 5 & 10

Here is the site to the Roycroft Inn. You WILL NOT be disappointed. The Roycroft Inn

Edit: Not sure if you're talking just bic shops. But this town in worth the visit. It's 20 min from Buffalo and 45 min to the Falls. Most of it expressway driving.
