There's only one problem with what the Oilers are doing right now. If they end up with the 1st pick every year eventually they're going to be a very good team.

Maybe, but they won't be able to keep everybody once those ELC's expire...And based on some of the decisions that Lowebellini have made, I'm quite confident that they'll be struggling for a while.

I saw the Deadline episode of Oil Change the other day on NHL Network. I found it interesting how they were so excited to get Colton Teubert. Don't get me wrong I think he's a good prospect, but I would have let the Kings keep Teubert & their 3rd round pick & accepted the Kings 1st & D Viatcheslov Voinov instead.

It's easy for me to second guess though. I mean what the heck do I know. I'm just a guy yapping on a message board.:D

I thought it was quite revealing that when somebody mentioned to Tambellini that Teubert had been a healthy scratch in Manchester for several games, Tambellini was taken completely by surprise (he was not aware of that fact).

I'm going to go with the premise that Tambellini knew the Kings were interested in Penner for at least a couple of weeks before the deadline. Don't scouts keep GM's aware of what possible player acquistions have done for the year leading up to the deadline?

I would expect the Oilers to have at least 1 scout watching Manchester a lot leading up to Deadline day. It's very surprising Tambellini didn't know that.
