Sure it was a back door deal they had in place for a while but why now? Why not after pick 9?

My guess would be that the Panthers spent a lot of time trying to get better terms and couldn't. I think the Panthers leaked the deal and the Broncos leaked that it doesn't mean they aren't looking at QB in the Thursday draft still - to preserve their options.

I think Bridgewater is brought in to be the backup either to Lock or a new rookie.

I like the signing for the price. A veteran backup for $3MM is very reasonable.

If we were still interested in drafting a QB I feel much better with Bridgewater‘s experience than Lock/Rypien/Driskell at #2 spot. I think we have been missing the veteran tutor for the past few years.

Remember there will be only 1 preseason game this year - where are the Bronco going to get the snaps for 3 QBs trying to be the starter? IMO - Paton is looking to trade down and acquire additional draft capital this year and next - if he intends to trade down - or wants to be in position to maximize a trade down - he has to make the league think he might pick a QB at 9 if one is available - that's where the value is.

A good theory, and very possible. But if they draft a QB in round 1, Lock will be moved and it will be Teddy and the Rook.

I think this move was like most other moves GP made going into the draft. Don't put yourself in a position to have to draft a player based on a gaping hole.

I think George is spot on. I believe we are very much in play for a rookie qb, maybe even more so. Next year we will have to make a decision on lock if we hold onto him. A rookie we have for the next 5 years

I look at this move as a good one. Esp getting Car to eat 7 mil of contract. It gives us more options in RD1. Whether we take Lance/Fields adding Teddy we can run same playbook if Teddy gets hurt thats huge esp for such a young QB young O. If we roll with Lock in 21 and trade down from 9 that's fine too. We'll find out tomorrow
