Dalton gave up 11 points today -- Piss poor pass for a pick 6 and piss poor miss on an easy AJ touchdown. I thought he hung in there pretty well though and I give him credit for keeping his head and stealing a victory.

It's clear that he doesn't trust Marvin Jones and for good reason.... What a horrendous play that fortunately didn't cost us the game. Gresham was back to his Jeckyl and Hyde act. It's really unfortunate that Sanu got injured because the passing game was much more crisp with him playing.

Agreed with everything you said. 3 TO today and a very poor outing by Dalton, but he hung in there, battled and with the help of the defense he was able to put us over the top. The defense in the first half had a hell of a time stopping anything though.

I admire Dalton for saying, mistakes have been made, but we are in striking distance, I am not giving up and I am going to win this game for us.

It was also much more crisp against some of the worst pass defenses in the league.

Losing Sanu is a loss to this team, no doubt, but until we see more with him in the lineup, it's hard to say how much. He started 3 games this season and those 3 against the 3 worst defenses we've faced this season.

Well if he really said that, then he just did his defense a serious injustice. He can thank his defense for giving up only 6 points and for giving him great field position time after time in the 2nd half.

I'm not down on Dalton -- He absolutely pressed too much early in the game and that caused some bad throws. His protection wasn't as good as it had been the last few weeks and I think that effected him a bit. Regardless, he put his team in position for a run.... Four weeks to go and he'll have to beat the Steelers and Ravens to have a chance. Let's see how far he's come.

He didn't say that outloud, that looked like his mindset to me, by never giving up.

Not yet giving up on Jones. He didn't have a good day, but I hope Marvin keeps running him out there, as his potential dwarfs that of Binns. Also happy to see Binns inactive, I hope it's a trend.

In the 2nd half, the defense gifted the offense with starting field positions at the 37, 44, 45, and 45 yard lines. Despite which, in each of the first 3 series, the Bengals went 3 and out and couldn't muster enough yards to even tie the game with a FG. Then the last drive BJGE carried the Bengals for 27 yards on a short field.

So, instead of being such a Dalton homer all the time, why not give some credit where it's due. This game is all on the defense. And if you want to credit anyone on offense, look no further than BJGE. He ran for 118 yards on 25 carries (4.7 ypc). As much grief as we've given him - myself included - he deserves this one. He ran hard and was elusive.

Dalton didn't have a good game, and there's no way to sugar coat it, no matter what you saw when you looked into his eyes.

On the bright side though, the Bengals are learning to win despite him when they need to. Let's hope it carries over against Pittsburgh and Baltimore as well.

He could have folded, threw another INT to seal the game for us like Palmer used to. I guess he could have done that, instead of tucking, running and diving for the goalline and putting his body on the line like that. He still needed to complete passes on 3rd down.

I am in no way taking away from what BJGE did, he has been fantastic for 3 straight weeks. Better than I ever expected out of him. Him and the defense for sure get the game ball.

Defense struggled early in the game, but they caught fire and held when it counted, in the red zone. Twice SD had to go for FG's inside their own 5. But SD was still able to move the ball up and down the field at will it seemed like until they got into the red zone.

I do not know why Jones has to share punt returns with Tate, just seems worthless to me to waste every other punt return.

This WAS a bad game for Dalton, regardless of what he wound up doing, but at least he hung in there and didn't let his mistakes compund into more. He threw one INT, I credit Marvin Jones with the other. He missed AJ on a sure thing TD and had to settle for 3. Andy Dalton cost us 11 points today, but he didn't force any more throws, he scrambled, let guys try to get open, when nothing was coming open, he threw the ball away even if that meant punting. Better to punt than to force a throw like earlier in the game and have it get picked off.

You misunderstand my entire intentions. I support Dalton because of what he was ultimately able to HELP accomplish, a WIN, on the WC against a good defense. I don't support the notion he had a good game, because he did not. I also give all t he credit in the world to the defense and BJGE, but I figured that was understood, they were the stars today. Didn't think I needed to point out the obvious to someone as brilliant as you, now did I?

The Chargers scored 6 points on our defense. I know that's they only way you can make Dalton look better, but no, the Chargers didn't have their way with the defense. You don't force bad field position with an offense having their way with you.

Dalton did everything he could to give the game away. The team won despite him.

Sugarcoat it however you please.

Feel free to look back at game threads and my assessments of Dalton in the past. I've always given him credit where it was due, and will continue to do so. And feel free to look at yesterday's thread, I made clear my opinion that the 2nd interception was on Jones.

Unfortunately, with all the homers on this board, all the positive things I've said get drained out by continually trying to argue against the homerism, and it seems I only say negative things.

I'm pretty sure that's one of Newton's laws.

I have read several times over about Dalton "giving away 11 points" but no credit for him getting 6 on that third down scramble up the middle.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton 6-yard TD run - NFL Videos

Route to Hawkins wasn't there...felt pressure and took off for the goal line. Huge play. Dalton did not have a stellar day but was big when needed.

Watch from 0:11-0:13.

Robinson initially pushes the tackle away from Dalton, but then suddenly let's him go while pushing him down, and then immediately takes off to block any impeding LB or DB. It was a designed QB sneak all the way. The pump fake was to freeze the FS (#41).

In fact, either Dalton was late on taking off for the TD or Robinson was too quick releasing the tackle as evidenced by the tackle almost getting Dalton by the shoe strings. Given Dalton's pretty fluid motion with the pump fake and then take-off, I'd bet on the latter. Great play call executed well enough to get the TD.

I realize this.

Did Rivers complete his first 10 passes of the game?

Did the Chargers have to settle for FG's inside their own 5 yard line twice?

The defense did get pushed around by the pass game a bit in the first half, sugar coat that shit however you want man, but it is true.

Fortunetly the defense was stout enough to have two good GL stands to force FG's.

The defense was unstoppable in the second half and they looked like the best defense in the NFL at that time. 0 points allowed.

I give the defense all the credit in the world. Hard as hell to have an off day as a QB and the offense to allow 3 TO including a pick 6 and still have a chance to win a game by a TD when only scoring 10 points in the half.

You act like I am trying to give Andy Dalton the game ball. I am not. He had an off day and a big mistake. However, he is still the leader of this offense, and he kept the offensive mindset in the right place, never let them believe they couldn't come back and win, and he LED them down the field, whether it was on the strength of BJGE's back or not. He was the leader, he called the audiables, scrambled, didn't force throws, completed big 3rd down plays and kept the chains moving enough to mount the comeback.

If we had lost, the lost could be credited to Dalton, but since we won, you have to give Dalton a little credit for being the leader of that mess and still holding this offense together. They play hard for Andy and the coaching staff. Whitworth is willing to be fined $26k for fighting to protect Andy without blinking twice. This team respects and listens to Dalton, even with as young as he is. They believe in him and that comes from respect, and the fact Andy has proven to them in the past, he can help them come back if they believe and fight for it.

Give Andy no credit at all this game, I will continue to be a homer. I would rather be a homer than you, and that is a fact. Enjoy some of the simpler things in life, you will live longer. Haven't the Bengals provided enough stress in your life over the last 20+ years? Can't you just enjoy a short, successful run and stop picking apart every little thing?

Fact: The Bengals don't cause me stress. I'm actually realistic.

However, I bet you could heed your own advice.

Is this guy for real?

Ive been on here for like a week, and can tell that almost everyone on here thinks, and responds to you like you are a troll.

Why do you take such a combative tone with everyone? Why do you only speak in absolutes, and why are you so wrong so often?

I gotta say, you are one annoying, self righteous, boy. And, your football knowledge and fact twisting to attempt to bolster your own idiot views is obvious and sad.

Why are you so angry?

You've only been here a week and you're already letting people get under your skin - let alone the fact that his is an internet message board.

I think you'd fit in better at Cincinnati Bengals Message Boards - Forums - Powered by vBulletin. Then you can just agree to agree on everything with all the other Bengals homers.

Oh, and feel free to point out where I'm speaking in "absolutes". I give my opinion. I can just add you to the list of people that can't handle it.
