Texans signed QB Deshaun Watson to a four-year, $160 million extension through 2025.
He gets $111 million guaranteed. Watson wanted a shorter-term deal, opting to get paid now and give himself a chance to cash in even bigger sooner rather than later, unlike Patrick Mahomes, who inked the record-setting 12-year pact in K.C. The $40 million average annual value in new money makes Watson the second-highest paid quarterback behind Mahomes. He's also now set to hit the open market again at 30 years old, giving himself another shot at big-time money, as long as the money keeps coming in for the NFL. It's a well-deserved deal, obviously, for fantasy's overall QB2 in points per game last season.

Watson should consider himself fortunate to be in the same draft class as Mahomes... Texans are idiots for not signing him before Mahomes inked his deal.

Ridiculous.

If Kyler Murray continues to improve & becomes a franchise QB, what is he going to get in three years? $50m AAV?

lol, when Mahomes got his half a bill he immediately plunked money into the Royals...

boy's got it made for the rest of his life...

These insane salaries in sports are the reason I can't afford a great seat to any games. Like sitting in the first couple of rows.

I'm surprised at the amount per season give the NFL cap goes down next season by a lot. $40 million a year geez that a boatload considering the cap goes down to 175 million.

The Cowboys embarrassing botching of the Dak keeps getting worse.

It is hilarious how much more they are going to have to pay him then they would have if they just tried to sign him around the Goff/Wentz deals.

Somebody mentioned some sort of new TV deal that is supposedly going to help.

Sure but the reason for the cap going down is no paying customers in the stands this year.

Saw this one coming. Figured maybe a year or two longer deal but not surprised at the AAV. Good for him.
