Texans signed QB Deshaun Watson to a four-year, $160 million extension through 2025.
He gets $111 million guaranteed. Watson wanted a shorter-term deal, opting to get paid now and give himself a chance to cash in even bigger sooner rather than later, unlike Patrick Mahomes, who inked the record-setting 12-year pact in K.C. The $40 million average annual value in new money makes Watson the second-highest paid quarterback behind Mahomes. He's also now set to hit the open market again at 30 years old, giving himself another shot at big-time money, as long as the money keeps coming in for the NFL. It's a well-deserved deal, obviously, for fantasy's overall QB2 in points per game last season.
