yes it was

That's an embarrassment. Can the NHL rescind press credentials?

Emery should be suspended for sure. Especially after you hear his post-game interview.

Holtby knows he's allowed to fight back, right?

And I don't care what the ref says, someone on the team should of stepped in during that beating.

Oh, Emery was absolutely a star tonight. Specifically:

Jesus, Flyers, when we say fight back, we mean on the scoreboard, not beating up defenseless Holtbies. Glad I attended a good hockey game tonight - I had tickets to Habs@Wild, and when I came back and started playing back the recording for the Flyers game, I just ended up fast forwarding through everything, because DA FUCK.

What Emery did is called assault. I mean I hate fighting, that's well known, but if the damn thing isn't going anywhere, follow the freaking "code"! You don't come screaming down the ice to fight a guy who says no. A guy who didn't deserve it. Refs were an equal disgrace. What a joke.

Emery is a douche. Philly is a shithole. Nothing new. It's so stupid though. I'm glad that holtby didn't get hurt in that and hope downie is okay. Justice that if someone had to get hurt, they were on the team looking to injure.

Downie being sent off the hospital is worrisome...but if he's concussed they were probably just ordering up an MRI to rule out brain bleeds.

That was my first thought. There has to be some legal precedent about that. I doubt charges would be pressed, but they could stand. There's assumption of risk in playing a sport, but fighting is a voluntary part of hockey...Holtby sure wasn't volunteering.

Holmgren said he wasn't upset with their reaction to being slapped around. Wonder how he felt about the crowds reaction to the game.

Maybe if Holtby had been hurt. However the league will probably just put the game on instant classics and use it as an advertising gimmick, with player safety commercials interspersed throughout because you know.....deterrence.

I think I'm developing a tick. I won't beat the dead horse, but gosh I keep getting more ammo. The only thing that happened from this is multiple guys getting injured. One's in the hospital, and he only arrived in Philly this week.

Rinaldo tonight was a great example of how "the code" doesn't work.

He ran out onto the ice and boarded Nick Backstrom hard and jumped up looking for a fight. None was given to him at that time, but clearly he was not only NOT dissuaded by the idea of having to fight, he was relishing the opportunity. You had Flyers out there tonight skating around the rink looking to run somebody, looking to take someone out, and praying someone would drop the gloves with them. It was ridiculous. I really thought one of the Caps was going to get injured in the 3rd period. I almost thought in the last 5 minutes they should just "dump and (not) chase." And the Caps weren't taking cheap shots or anything tonight. Holtby didn't whack somebody in the legs and Emery took exception. The team didn't even celebrate much during the last few goals. The Flyers were losing. They were getting beaten. And they couldn't take it like men, so they reacted like little boys.

I don't see this in sports like football. A team gets down 38-7 with 7 minutes left and both teams half-assedly run off tackle while the clock ticks away. Nobody has to kick someone's ass to motivate them.

Fighting prevents injuries - the biggest bullshit hypocrisy in sports today. Tonight was an excellent example of how that culture can lead to very negative consequences and how fighting prevents absolutely nothing except health and safety. Downie ends tonight's game with a concussion and we're lucky nobody on the Caps was seriously injured or concussed.

A game out of hand in a sport with a culture that lends itself to that.
