I bet OD didn't even follow Oregon football back in 2001.

Whatever, he was taking piano lessons so he could be like Joey Harrington.

Being a life long Duck fan I was a huge fan of Ducks in '01. Think I was in 8th grade, I remember it well. And just like '12 fucking stanford ruined our hopes.

You're telling me Oregon/Alabama wouldn't have been a better game? Not crying we weren't in it, just saying this was a bad game.

Oregon is weaker up front than is Notre Dame........

Notre Dame lost the game entirely up front. The only thing Oregon would have had over Notre Dame is the fact that they would have scored over 20 points.........

It's just that Alabama would have scored over 50.

Fuck ND!

And btw when Saban has a month to prepare, he WONT lose. But there had to be better matchups than these Domers pussyfooting out there.

They werent the 2nd best team, most pple could of said that half way through the season.

Oregon has some great athletes up front. I think Dion Jordan could have caused some havoc. Also, Oregon runs their D-Line differently then most teams, they substitute frequently so there is always fresh bodies out there, their defense is much like their offense with the speed they use and the numerous time they blitz. Oregon blitzes probably 90% of the time, but they rotate guys in and out so often they are able to stay fresh and able to bring pressure all game.

OD, Oregon is not even in the same conversation with good defenses.

Oregon Rushing Defense: 45th
Pass Defense: 56th
Total Defense: 44th

Stanford had a good defense and the only reason Oregon lost a close one is because Stanford had a poor 'offense'.

Rushing Offense: 48
Passing Offense: 93
Total Offense: 84

Considering Notre Dame is very similar to Stanford offensively and defensively, I think the outcome of a Notre Dame/Oregon matchup would have been very similar to the Oregon Loss to Stanford. A coin flip for all practical purposes.

An Oregon/Alabama matchup would potentially have been a bigger route than what Notre Dame/Alabama was.

To suggest that Oregon could have handled Alabama "upfront" on either side of the ball is laughable at best.

The only thing Oregon could do is the hurry up.... Bama does not defend the hurry up style offense well.

What Alabama opponent ran the hurry up? :noidea:

The only two opponents to score more than 17 pts on them were

Texas A&M - 29 pts
Georgia - 28 pts

I didn't get to see the game. I was at a resort up north and their Satellite programming didn't carry ESPN. They had ESPN though. Kinda weird. I followed it on my phone and was not surprised in the least about the outcome.

I think Texas A&M is a more rounded team than Oregon though. A&M beat Bama by having the ability to be multiple and still only scored 29 pts.

Rushing Offense

Texas A&M: 11th
Oregon:......3rd

Passing Offense

Texas A&M: 14th
Oregon:......72nd

Texas A&M vs Alabama stats

Rushing Offense

Texas A&M: 185 46/185, 2TD's

Passing Offense

Texas A&M: 24/31 253 yds, 2TD's

The upper echelon of the SEC are very similar physically. Oregon didn't fare well against LSU in 2011 (40-27) with their offense.

The most entertaining bit about this thread though is that OD is arguing that Oregon (who didn't win their Division or their Conference) should have played in the National Title game.

That was Oregon's sole argument against Nebraska playing Miami for the NC in 2002. :dhd:

A&M does have a good rushing offense, but A&M beat us by throwing the ball. I was at the game and some of the throws he made were amazing.
