Was the 8-game win streak a FLUKE?

After giving up a six-run lead today, completing the Boston sweep, one can't help but wonder.

Since anything over a 2 game win streak is exceedingly rare for the team, yeah, I'd say an 8 game win streak is an anomaly by definition.

It was fun to watch, though. And offensively, the team has not really gone too far downhill since the 8 game win streak.

Our offensive outburst is definitely not a fluke...we are still hitting the ball pretty well...we just don't have the luck/ability to finish games.

Say what you want but it just seemed like we weren't meant to win today's game. And that's been the feeling for like 9-10 of the heart breaking losses that we've experienced.

I still think we're a good team. We just need to patch up the bullpen a bit, play with more consistency and finish out games better and we're easily a .500 ball club or better.

As long as we have Felix and Iwak...all I want is a shot at the playoffs (next year). MLB playoffs are as wide open as any sport. If you have two horses that get hot...they can shoulder you all the way to a world series.

Yes, but it takes more than 2 horses to get you to the playoffs and we don't have that. We need 2 above league average SP's next year and use Walker as the #5 and then we have a shot.

Depends on what you mean by a "fluke". Unlikely that the M's win 80% of their remaining games, but winning 60% would get them to around 50% for the season. Definitely got some good young hitters in Miller, Franklin, and Seager.

If one is wondering then you don't know this team, its still a young team, in all honestly they could've left Boston winning the series, 15 inngs Wednesday night and the pen breakdown in the 9th doesn't sit well with me but at the same time I know its a young team there gonna "brain fart" every now and then...

I'd LIKE to stay upbeat after something big like that win streak, but then, you get stuff like those two games. Reality kicks in.

If the FO had anything to say about this, they'd probably be laughing themselves sick right now.

Well if you really look at it we beat the angles, astros, indians, and split the twins so its nothing huge. Boston has been in and out as having the best record in the league.

maybe its zunino's game managing catching skills? maybe him in the lineup brings some kind of chemistry to the team?

6 of the 8 wins were against the Angels and Astros and the 2 Cleveland wins were by 1 run. So I don't think it was a fluke considering who they were playing. If they had swept the Red Sox and Tigers and then started losing to teams like the Astros then I would say fluke yes.

I still think this team is about 78-80 win team but its easy to over/underreact considering the roller coaster ride we have been on the last few weeks.

Positive note is that the farm system as it stands is built only on pitching. They are still hitting during this slide but can't pitch a tent.

Back to normal now, getting dominated by better teams like Boston, and teams about the same as them like Toronto.

Congrats to the home team for another big win tonight for their fans.

100% officially back to normal now.

Now getting dominated by teams worse than us.

Really hope Franklin and Miller learn and grow from their recent struggles and play league average ball in 2014.

At least it took until the 7th inning for things to fall apart...on the pitching side, that is.

The M's do this every year. They have a nice run in the middle of summer that gets people excited and you hear things like, "hopefully they'll be .500 by the end of the year" or "only 8 games out of the wild card." Of course the run never lasts and the M's start losing again. Just the same thing over and over and it's why I can never get excited about this team, even when they manage to win 8 games in a row. They're just not a good team and I see no reason to think that will change until Howie and Chuck are long gone.
