I might add two to the list that would be better than Phils. Tom Watson's back to back 65's in the 1977 British Open at Turnberry beating Nicklaus by one as both were paired the final two rounds with Nicklaus shooting 65-66, also
Arnold Palmers 65 in the final round of the 1960 U.S. Open at Cherry Hills coming from 7 shots behind to win by 2 over Nicklaus.

The course Phill beat was much, much harder than Turnberry, and Cherry Hills without any wind is pretty mundane.

I have to go with Miller's 63. It's the record and an amazing round on a day when only a couple of other guys broke 70. But there was really no pressure on him. Phil's is up there, though. I'll add Player's final round 64 and back 9 30 to win the 78 Masters by 1.

Both very legit...Watson being paired w/ JN does trump Phil's rd...maybe not so much the '60 USO...Palmer was the guy. The round was historic...Jack was a youngster.

This is where I wish we had a poll on this board.

I agree with the top 3 that keep getting mentioned. I also agree Miller's has to still stand at #1. However, have not made my mind up yet about Phil vs Jack in order of 2 vs 3. Close call.

ATL The thing that stands out about Palmer in 1960 is that he was in 15th place at the start of the final round besides over taking a young Nicklaus he also had to overtake Snead, Hogan, Casper, Boros and Player and the 65 he shot was the low round of the tournament by two shots. Phil's round was great but Palmer's might be just a little better in the number of players he had to overtake.

Didn't know he beat the course I thought he beat the field.
