i think blocking schemes were matched with rules. same in the modern league.

Problem is when the D player got past the block. Back then he was free to maim, now it's a step above touch gootball.

its not true! today defenses is more adapted to passhappy offences.

Still doesn't compare the difference in era's.

Passing offenses now average 237 passing yards per game and 1.7 passing TD's per game. In the 80's the average was around 200 passing yards per games and close to 1 passing TD per game. Mario would still light it up and be an elite QB in this era as well

its more about health not gameplay

the brutality of gameplay remains almost equal.

the statement is marino isnt elite qb. hes just proven but inconsistent, among dozens of similar ones. hes somehow hyped by media.
explaine, how these numbers can defiine player as an elite...
1983 20 td 6 int rtg=96
1984 48 td 17 int rtg=108.9
1985 30 td 21int rtg=84.1
1986 44 td 23 int rtg=92.5
1987 26 td 13 int rtg=89.2
1988 28 td 23 int rtg=80.8
1989 24 td 22 int rtg=76.9
1990 21 td 11 int rtg=82.6
1991 25 td 13 int rtg= 85.8
1992 24 td 16 int rtg= 85.1
1993 8 td 3 int rtg= 95.9
1994 30 td 17 int rtg== 89.2
1995 24 td 15 int rtg= 90.8
1996 17 td 9 int rtg= 87.8 18
1997 16 td 11 td rtg= 80.7
1998 23 td 15 int rtg= 80.0
1999 12 td 17 int rtg=67.4
#1 in rz ints in his time. Only 5 times rating over 90...
And there was a talent, and rushing offense was notso bad( but they run it rarely, why?), and defense sometimes were among the best.

He finished in the top 10 QB rating 12 times in his career.

You cant compare QB rating of today's QB's to QB's from a different era. It was a completely different style of play. You have to compare them by era.

Today's dink and dunk era of passing where not making a mistake is paramount is a completely different philosophy from what most teams in Marino's era who were looking to do. Marino's teams were looking to create big plays and lived with the mistakes that could come with it.

Had Marino been drafted by SF and played his career in a West Coast offense instead of a vertical offense, his stats would have been radically different.

I wonder if the new guy saw Marino play. I asked him that but no answer.
2 possible scenarios:
1 - He never has and doesn't understand how the game has changed and stats are not comparable
2 - He's trolling
