Do not allow incoming relief pitchers to warm up on the game mound.
Major League Baseball needs pitch tracker to call balls and strikes.......
If there was a TRUE strike zone, there would be more high strikes called........and no arguing

The problem with using equipment to measure performance is that if you remove the human option, when the equipment fails (not if, when) you have to find an alternative.

Comparable: Watched a college BB game not long ago and the 30-second clock malfunctioned. The rules can't be discarded so what could they do? They had a guy on the bench do a stop watch and when it got under 10, he announced 10-9-8 ... etc ... it was not a good option.

So if you let a computer call balls and strikes, fine ... but no machine ever didn't fail once in awhile.

I doubt you will ever get anybody to agree that warming up in the bullpen is the same as on the real mound.

So one failure in an amateur game means we can't embrace moving forward? How many NBA games have had serious issues with the possession clock?

The tech isn't there yet to implement robot ball/strike calling. But it is ready for minor league or spring training testing.

I have no interest in watching a game with a pitch tracker making calls.
I too would hate to watch a game without my favorite umpire there. If there is no ump, why bother?!

Some of my favorite memories as a kid were when I would get together with friends and trade umpire cards. I wanted to be an umpire for much of my childhood because I craved for the adulation that these superstars received every day in MLB ballparks. My only wish was that those pesky players would eventually get out of the way so the umpires could truly shine.

I don't think the strike zone is the reason the games are slow, for what that's worth.

I don't know how I'm going to fight back tears when Joe West umpires his 5000th game this year, becoming the 3rd ump to accomplish the feat. I wore number 22 because of him.

I think there could be a little bit of improvement with automatic strike zones, but overall, I agree. Without really changing the foundation of the game, the length of games cannot be significantly shortened (fewer innings, restrictions on relievers, etc)

I have been gorging myself for years just trying to mimic his turkey neck.

A true role model.

We can't have computers calling balls and strikes.

What the hell is the matter with you?

Who we supposed to blame after we lose?

How many times does a human umpire fail on ball and strike calls ,in one game?

And human umpires tend to have a small strike zones......slows games down.
Strikes, high in the "strike zone" are seldom called.......

And why should a strike zone change depending on the umpire?

Humans **tend** to have something you don't like.
You have proof that machines will have bigger strike zones? Exactly where is your proof? How much bigger would be big enough?
You are blaming the umpires for games being too slow? Maybe you should watch some games.
It's nice you are venting here, and I hope you find a hobby that interests you.

a legiitimate strike zone......underneath the arm pits to knee high.
And the ball has to actually cross the plate.

I've been a CHICAGO CUB fan, probably, longer than you've been alive.
And I've played baseball and softball.

From your argument then. Why do they have instant replay in most major sports?

to get calls correct. And to make games as fair as possible.

hawk eye in tennis
instant replay in hockey
instant replay in the NBA and college basketball
instant replay in MLB
instant replay in the NFL

But I have to admit I'm not in favor of video to police golfers on the PGA and LPGA because it's done SELECTIVELY.
