- Kyle Seagar is signed for this year only. Next year he will be arbitration-eligible. The current trend among MLB teams is to lock up their young starters to multi-year deals that carry them through their arbitration years, and in some cases, the first year or two of free agency. So, why haven't we heard of any contract negotiations between the Ms and Seagar? Seems to me like this should have happened already.
- JD Peterson was promoted to Jackson after putting up a .988 OPS and leading the California League in RBI. As good has he has been, Kyle's young brother Cory has been even better. I read on a Cubs blog where some guy proposed this trade: Peterson and Paxson for Samardzija. i got a good laugh out of that. I thought the Cubs fan base was supposed to be one of the smarter fan bases in MLB? Maybe not.
- Tijuan Walker threw a 107-pitch complete game shut out last night. It's good to know that his turn in the rotation falls on the same day as Rameriz' turn in the rotation. I have a feeling that was probably planned, and not a coincidence.
- 6 games over .500 for the first time in 5 years. 35-23 in their last 58 games. That's a .603 winning percentage which equates to a 97-65 record over 162 games. I've noticed that our resident doom-and-gloomers haven't been quite so doomish-and-gloomish lately. Mariners' success must be like piss their cherrios for those guys.
