Well quad D... a touchdown pass scores 6 points (7 in theory)... so if you can throw 3 touchdown (ahem, TD) passes in a game, you probably have a good chance to win. So naturally because teams want to win, it is in their interest to throw for 3 (OR MORE) TD passes in a game.
