you are allowed to pick up a flag after discussion by rule....but that was a 10 minute discussion....

The RIGHT call was made ultimately. It was just an absolute god awful call made initially.

It is weird, but there is no rule for how long the discussion can last. It never lasts 10 minutes or more, but it was legal.

They can overturn it. They even said it on the broadcast. Instant replay cannot step in and overturn it but refs can huddle up and change their decision.

The decision took awhile because I’m sure the refs were looking at the crowd and making sure everyone was safe before continuing.

you see that all the time in games where the referee picks up a flag after interference is called. It is not even that uncommon.

A discussion of a penalty is not a review.

What is uncommon is that the discussion took over 10 minutes...instead of the usual 30 seconds...

There probably needs to be a discussion time limit.
