I'm very pro-fighting. I love watching old fights on Youtube, I love it when there's a fight in the game. I think fighting is a part of hockey and it needs to stay. That said, the role of the enforcer is unnecessary, outdated, and it needs to go. These guys are getting too big, too well trained at fighting, and too strong for it to be safe. You talk about the "pussification" of hockey and you want to go back to the big manly 70's? When guys were on average an inch shorter and twenty pounds lighter than they are today? When there weren't 6'6 250lb fighting machines who could barely skate tottering around the ice? The game play then and now is apples and oranges. I have no problem seeing a fight every game, but "staged" fights are bullshit 90% of the time and fights after big hits are bullshit.

They need to make a 3-5 fight per season maximum. If you fight more than say 4 times a year, you are done playing for the year. Stuff like that is going to make general managers who don't have giant heads and perpetual motion flapping lips think twice about signing a guy who can't skate, shoot, or pass, but can bench a lot of weight and looks scary with a goatee.

I'm all for fighting, but guys are literally killing themselves out there.

.

for better or worse, a guy sitting on fight #4 is going to get absolutely massacred out there, b/c he can't react.
gotta be careful when the penalty (for that guy) for fighting is worse than say two handing a guy in retaliation for whatever.

That's very possible... not saying my plan is perfect, it was probably more reactionary than anything else.
