Tough for the NHL, too. Outside of just the straight up community loss, all they need are more issues over players health and safety issues to be concerned about. It could honestly be a total coincidence and have nothing to do with the game of hockey. But it just seems like another thing they will have to examine moving forward on top of concussions, dangerous hits, etc.

Bad things happen in 3s. Hopefully we don't see this headline again next month. He's my age and had a whole life ahead of him. Tragic.

You're probably right, I wonder if ESPN will jump on this they seem to like bad news in the NHL world.

They really need to address pain management/prescription drug use not only with current players but former players

Belak was struggling with a degnerative condition but a week ago he was happy and looking forward to being on the preds broadast .. Wife and kids ... Gonna be on battle of the blades this fall

SHIT !! That is so sad. It's so sad that people give up on life, I understand they get depressed and it was talked about in another thread. I know someone that did the same and it leaves so much guilt with the people left behind because you always wonder if you missed the signs and maybe could have done something.

RIP Wade.

I don't know boss, but it does seem strange to say the least.

The only thing I can think of is maybe these guys are on more pain medication more of the time (but your guess is as good as mine.....maybe a combination of the two). Drugs, while they can be lifesavers and beautiful things (legal ones Super Flyer ), can really fuck up one's outlook on life. It's been a really sad offseason.

Man, when you think about the fact that he was probably sad because his playing career just ended, on a lot of drugs for pain, had a degenerative hip issue...that's a indicator for depression. Sad, sad day. Just horrible news.

This will garner attention and it should.

All three were fighters.

Repeated head shots for years.

Flame me if you want, but I am a trained epidemiologist. This is a pattern worth exploring. If the reports are true this is 2 suicides and an "accidental" overdose in one offseason by a group of guys with similar histories. We know a lot more about CTE now. This is most likely exactly what it appears to be and it is slapping everyone in the face.

Get rid of the pointless ritual.....
