Virginia Tech 2012 Recruiting Target List

Sounds like another underrated Virginia Tech recruiting class that once they get re-ranked 4 years from now by the various recruiting services and outlets will end up in the top 10 nationally. It's funny how consistently that seems to happen.

Good coaching has a lot to do with it.

For any of you who might be in the know ...

Why didn't we recruit Darius Hamilton harder?? Or did we and he just didn't show interest?

I know that NJ isn't typically an area we camp out in but from what I've read, he has family that live nearby (Lynchburg area I believe).

With his recruiter from Cal leaving ... he would've been a catch too ... Oh well -- guess you can't get em all -- I was just curious if we just didn't go hard after him or if he wasn't that interested.

It has been widely believed that he would go to Rutgers anyhow.

We recruited him pretty hard and he had family ties in Lynchburg. However, he was just never really as responsive to us as some message board homers would tell you.

I think they really thought the connection between Cornell and his father, plus the father down in Lynchburg would warrant more interest, but he really hasn't shown much interest outside of a few schools.

As a Georgia, for years I have thought that they were against UGA and favored temas like USC, Bama, Florida and Texas, etc.

Take John Theus for example. Last year they had him as the #6 player overall and were hyping him beyond belief... fast forward a bit and he commits early to Georgia over Florida... instantly he drops. Now he's barely in their top 25.


Georgia has the #18 class according to Rivals, while ESPN has us #5.

He's still a 5 star with Rivals, while a 4 star with ESPN. Looking at your class on ESPN and Rivals, it's pretty similar with concern to individual rankings. You have one 5 star and six-eight 4 stars. Looks pretty comparable. The only difference is the team ranking.

Yeah, I'm not real sure why, but it seems like they are on our jock. Which is weird because in pre-signing day rankings ESPN usually has UGA lower that what Rivals or Scouts has us. It's the opposite this year.

I think most of it came from his on field performances in December and the All-Star games. Gurley played in 18 games this year.

He got a lot of praise for his play in his state championship win, in which he reportedly played with 2 sprained ankles. He did well in the All Star games as well.

Apparently some scouts are now saying that he is better than his friend Keith Marshall, who has been highly ranked for a while now.

Heard that he was also looking at other schools as well (after DE was fired at ASU), so he must go whichever way the wind blows. Wouldnt be surprised if he were to transfer at some point if he isnt going to be a 2-3 year starter. We missed out on him, but probably better for all parties. In other OT QB news, I see that Gunner Kiel switched it up again (from LSU to ND).
