I'd love to see the age breakdown of that stat. I'm guessing most of the fans that are fine with it are likely from the younger generation.

I'd agree with that. Probably a bunch of old stuffy people. Still can't believe the government is getting involved. This ranks up with the US gov't getting involved in steroids.

Another thing I'd be interested to see is how the poll was conducted, the sample size, etc. I can't help but notice it's a French paper that is reporting it. Did they do the study themselves by polling their own readers or are they reporting someone else's findings who may or may not have used a true random sample and a significant enough sample size?

I was reading a lot of this stuff before I grew tired of it yesterday but from the few days I read about it the comments sections were overwhelmingly in favor of hiring the best candidate, not the best French speaking candidate. Many of the readers posting comments claimed they were Francophones, many even stated that older family members could care less if the coach spoke French. I know thats not exactly scientific but thats what I was reading.

Can you say that in French, please?

No hablo esfrencho. Me barely hablo engles.

Funny how Les Habs went back to "Quebec's" team, even though most of them that weren't religious about Les Habs hopped on the Nordiques bandwagon a few decades ago. I don't think bandwagoners have the right to claim what is best for "their team" when "their team" has changed a few times.
And why does a coach NEED to speak French in Montreal? Almost everybody in Montreal can speak English. Almost every reporter can speak English. The ones that don't have translators and translation tools to translate. Montreal is the only NHL city that has any sort of quantifiable percentage of francophones. The other 29 NHL cities have no need for it at all. So why do interviews need to be done in French?
Furthermore, hockey is about x's and o's. It's about teamwork and passion. It's about talent and chemistry. Perhaps a hot goalie and some lucky bounces and breaks. And some luck on the injury front. None of which is done in any specific language.

I may be a little bit offbase, but I'm not sure anybody is scared of a man who uses the "oh snap" phrase. Unless you were about to "step and battle" in a dance off or something. Hehe

Patrick Roy coaching the Habs? This is seriously a possibility, or is it just nutjobs with really short memories naming any french speaking person who knows about hockey sorta?

It's more likely that I would want to be defensive coordinator for the Ravens than I would expect Patrick Roy wants ANYTHING to do with the Montreal organization.

Someone on a radio station asked Patrick Roy if he would accept a phone call from Les Habs organization regarding the coaching position. Roy said that yes, he would.

It was merely a question posed due to the recent coach firing in Montreal combined with Roy's burning bridge fallout with the franchise.

And then TSN and everybody else ran with the "Roy/Habs coach" story

I get away with saying "Oh Snap", because i'm known to reach right through a guys internet and kill him dead. Probably happens 3 to 4 times a week.

well, he did coach in the Q, so that seems to be good enough of a resume (even though he was a nutjob there, too)

i think they messed up when they let Muller go elsewhere
cant remember how good his french was though.

Roy's beef was with Mario Tremblay and, then president, Ronald Corey.

I believe (I might be wrong here) that Roy attended the retiring of his number by the organization.

I think he's OK with the Habs now.

I actually think he'd take a coaching or GM job with the Habs in a New York minute. His pride/love of the spotlight/ego/competitive fire just wouldn't let him turn down such a high profile position.

Just my opinion though.

Yes, he did attend the retiring of his number and got a standing ovation from the Habs faithful.

The bolded part is also true, but he's going to wait until the Habs are a legitimate contender (or until they change the rules and give Montreal an automatic berth in the Stanley Cup Finals (much like his Quebec Remparts got into the Memorial Cup tourney a few years ago).
