Crazy how so many goalies who were good/showed potential go to Toronto and completely fall apart. Tough place to play.

Last three Kings' highly regarded back-ups tried as #1s: Scrivens, Bernier, Jones.
Reminds me of when Dodgers' hitting prospects were overvalued because they played in hitter-friendly Albuquerque and Edmonton & the pitchers because they pitched in Dodger Stadium--the Dodgers made a living of almost always getting more value than they were giving. (I'm showing my age here--I'm 53)

Yeah, the Kings' backup position is pretty deceptive, and I think the Kings have capitalized on that in some trades. They played well here for short stints, never anything extended because of Quick, but the team in front of them as Laguna D implied is solid. The team structure, style and personnel make average goalies look pretty good. Look back to last season, when the defense was just shaky all around, and Jones was brought back down to earth.

Scrivens I never expected to see as a starter anywhere but I will say Bernier's current situation is surprising. Throughout his career his mental toughness has always been mentioned, how he just shakes stuff off and moves to the next save. Clearly being in TO has cracked him in some way, and I hope he gets it together and becomes that starter for if not them then someone else. He has the tools all the way around to be a legitimate starter.

Jones has been inconsistent for SJ, he followed up those 3 early SOs with getting torched then playing decent then down then you get the picture. Understandable being a first year starter, so I'll reserve judgement on him for about another year but at least the Kings turned him into Lucic which has worked out well so far.
