This team has been boring as hell for the last 7 years or so. The fans need a reason to show up at the park or to turn on the TV. They won’t get those views due to wins, so they might as well get the name-flash instead.

This team has been boring as hell for the last 7 years or so. The fans need a reason to show up at the park or to turn on the TV. They won’t get those views due to wins, so they might as well get the name-flash instead.
Exactly. It doesn't really move the needle to make this team a contender but it is specifically to meet Buster Posey's stated intent to make this team exciting, to make memories. Sure, winning a Wild Card or the division would do that but having a big name, even in decline, will at least generate more interest in the team and having a guy on the tail end of his HOF career will "make memories" much as Randy Johnson did in 2009.

And I don't know what other milestones Verlander is approaching but his 300th win won't be in 2025. It will be interesting to see how he does in 2025 and how close he gets to 300 at the end of the season as it may be something the Giants consider bringing him back for 2026.

I doubt he'll get to 300 wins in his career, but if he does it won't be until 2027.
