Joseph is a little out of left field...doubt he gets the gig.
Reports: Broncos talk to Bengals DBs coach Vance Joseph

Looks like Kubiak is now interviewing for the gig..... Given his relationship with Elway, you'd figure he'd be the top target.
I'd be happy with this..... The Ravens offense will need a new coordinator.
No doubt that part of bringing Vance in is to satisfy the Rooney rule. However, don't rule out the possibility that the Broncos are strongly considering him for defensive coordinator. He has ties to Colorado as he played at the University of Colorado. He was also a coach under Kubiak in Houston. Since Kubiak is the leading candidate for the Denver HC job, a lot of speculators are tagging Vance Joseph to run Kubiak's defense. A lot of moving parts this year.

That would be a disingenuous way to recruit a DC -- My understanding of the rules is that you have to let your coaches (that are under contract) interview for head coaching jobs, but you do not have to let them interview for coordinator positions. The Bengals have always been good about this -- They don't get in the way. For example, they let Kevin Coyle interview and win the DC job down in Miami. Anyway, the Bengals don't HAVE to give permission to the Broncos to hire Joseph -- Unless the Broncos want him as a HC
I do not believe this is correct. I think it is as long as the coach is interviewing for a promoted position from his current, and from DB coach to Defensive coordinator would indeed be a promotion.
That might be wrong, but that is what I thought. It is dishonest to call it a interview for a HC position though if that is really not what it is for.
The point is likely moot.... Mike Brown wouldn't stand in the way of one of his coaches getting a promotion. I have no data on this, but I'd make a less than bold prediction that our position coaches are some of the lowest paid in the league. Mike Brown is a dick to fans and can be a dick to his high paid players, but I bet he shows loyalty to the coaches.... His dad was a coach and his dad got fucked by ownership - That matters to Mike Brown. He wouldn't screw over a coach that's been loyal to the family.
No it doesn't happen often that someone gets promoted from a positional coach straight to HC, but it did just happen in SF
