Just reading everything over the last 24 hours or so, it sounds like its going to be Bobby Lutz. He's had some pretty good success at a small school (UNC Charlotte). They made quite a few tournaments during his tenure and I remember them being somewhat of a feisty team but I can't really recall his style of play (up tempo, defensive minded, etc).

He might end up being the better hire than Prohm. Prohm only has one season under his belt and you have to ask yourself was all that success from Prohm's coaching or did he just happen to luck into a good roster at Murray State that features a NBA caliber player? Hard to say. Just kind of have to go on your gut with that one.

Is he better than Seth Greenberg? Can he further raise the profile of Va Tech basketball?

I don't know much about Lutz, but he seems like a pretty solid coach.

That is the rumor right now but it is just a rumor at this point (not to say it couldn't be true). We will know soon enough once everyone is interviewed

If he wins, yes. But I don't know if he's as media savvy as Greenberg was. Somehow, Greeny got ESPN kissing his ass and they gave us a lot of airtime despite us being really only a mediocre team. IMO, Prohm would give us more media exposure given his stature as a young, blossoming coach.

i'd rather get a young guy like prohm who has a high ceiling rather than an older vet coach like lutz with moderate success.

According to Will Stewart (@WillStewartTSL):
"TSL poster says EMU's Rob Murphy tweeted NCSU's Bobby Lutz "congrats on getting the VT job." Tweet has been removed."

This sort of coincides with what I have been hearing. If this ends up being true, we could've done much much worse imo

Just give me a coach who knows how to win and can recruit well. The media stuff will fall in line if that happens.

I guess the Jay Wright scenario has fizzled and Prohm isn't even sure he'd leave for VT. Seems like this coaching search is going no where. Maybe Weaver should go ahead and hire James Johnson. JJ is likely boom or bust, but he should at least be able to last until Weaver retires.

Jay Wright? I haven't seen that anywhere. The only way he leaves Nova is if we cut him a fat check that's bigger than Beamer's salary. So in other words, Jay Wright ain't leaving Nova for Va Tech. That sounds like a bunch of internet rumor mill stuff.

Possibly, but this was mentioned in a few internet publications, so there's something there. No way to know if it's genuine interest or not, or if Va Tech is willing to push forward an attractive enough package for him, but it does add an interesting dimension to the selection process.

I'm hearing Virginia Tech will hire James Johnson as its new head coach. Johnson arrived at Clemson 2 weeks ago after 5 years in Blacksburg

I don't believe it, yet, since we have supposedly hired Lutz and Pastos (Layola) according to twitter this weekend. Just enjoy spreading rumors. I do hope we hire a coach today or tomorrow, though. Players and recruits (and i guess fans too) are getting impatient.

There's been so many rumors being thrown around, but nothing being said from the AD that it's all second hand information and usually inaccurate. I'd be happy with Johnson though as the players seem to like him and he's a good coach.
