I've been a fan of this team for over 40 years. A name change doesn't affect my loyalty at all.

As for dan giving up the fight, I don't see that happening yet (I do eventually). He will hold out until he gets financial support from the League to cover his costs and lost revenues. You can bet he's going to claim that a name change will cost dearly. Or maybe he holds out for a Super Bowl.

:agree:

I feel the same way with regards to loyalty to this team. This is a legislative move, the team will always hold my appreciation and fandom.

I'm sure they're ecstatic ... its inevitable now, though, so why not stir it up and have some fun and serve science over Political Correctness ... name the team The Washington Kennewick Men, in honor of the true first Americans and watch the feathers fly!

Holy cow is right. Here's my response on the general board:

Definitely a landmark win for those parties, insisting the name Redskins is a 'derogatory' term. I find it comical, but that's of no import. A decision has been reached. So be it.

Should be very interesting to see how this all plays out. But it is definitively a very VALID shot across the bow, as it is quite possible that this decision, could likely impact in the 'millions of dollars' the revenues of the skins franchise. That's how you get things changed, affect the bottom line and potential sponsorships.

We'll see how it plays out at the state level and/or any appeal, if that is even a course that can be pursued.

My opinion has been stated enough times in regards to 'content and context' and civil liberties, with regards to this issue so I'm not gonna beat the proverbial dead horse.

I'm sure this will come as validation for those posters who feel 'an epic injustice' towards the NAs has been addressed. Well, I continue to posit that this will do absolutely NOTHING towards impacting the REAL issues/difficulties that today's NAs face within our country today.

Too bad, public policy towards NAs doesn't have such a ground swell of outrage. About Changes that could actually help and positively impact policies.

But at least no one will use the word 'redskin' when discussing Our NA brothers.

There have been plenty of other discussions with regards to this issue......I've made my position known early on and decided not to participate in further discussion until there was another meaningful turn of events that compelled me to do so.

Isn't it possible that the groundswell that so many are looking for from the mainstream fans won't happen because there is a comfort level with historical outcomes? Sort of like......as the country grew, the wars that were fought gave a victor and a vanquished. To the victors go the spoils (and the resulting bigger voice)....to the vanquished, nada!!

Seems to me that some Washington fans who object to the name change should actually be Cowboy/49er/Texans/patriots fans, that is of course if the common name trumped both the TEAM and Location (Washington) of their favored football franchise.

Ironically, it has been the wants of the few in relation to the thoughts of the many that have also become landmark rulings in favor of the few throughout the history of this countries minorities.

If D. Snyder was smart he would see the eventuality of this fight and announce that against his better judgment he's being forced to rename the team. A protracted court fight might last for years, to the detriment to him and his team with the same outcome. This is the time for him to act and do so wisely.

Finally, to all of those who proclaim that they will no longer support the team if the name changes, there are two things at work here. The first, is their support seems based solely on the name and not the team itself. The team doesn't change ONLY the name......the common name. Here's what I mean, Let's say Mr. Snyder decides to drop the common name and in it's stead refers to the franchise as the Washington Football Club (WFC Inc.) No logo, same colors, do you still root for the team?

The wife wants to run some errands, but I promise to respond to all replies just as soon as I get back.

Sty.... Maybe Im just one who has full confidence in the greed of man in the US. But if Snyder loses this thing. changing the name will be the least of the worries. In todays litigation happy USA, you can bank on the fct that in short order there will be vast numbers of Native Americans proclaiming how having to endure the racial slur of a team name cause irreparable mental anguish and Dan Snyders cold callus manner towards this whole thing just amplified hurt. There will be civil damage suites filed not only against the team, but Snyder personally. They will site the trademark departments ruling as saying the word is disparaging and sadly they will win. IN a society where you can get paid for spilling coffee on yourself, and people can get millions for the mental stress caused by their boss because he wouldnt let them slack off at work, this is a trial lawyers wet dream of a case. An entire group as clients, and one person to blame. Even if it eventually gets settled out of court (which it wont) it will cause way more financial stress than Dan wants to deal with. And any lawyer worth half his salt would actually drag the league as a whole into it.

And now for the flip side. If Im Dan I file my appeal tomorrow morning. The best and only logical defense to this is to point out two things.

1. The group of Native Americans filing this second suite amount to no more than hired guns gathered up by Mrs Harjo to get a second crack at her case which got over turned the first time.

2. Taking a word into context requires looking at how that word IS being used, not how it could be use. Nothing the team has ever done with the name has either directly or indirectly been meant to be disparaging to Native Americans. The team or its fan base have never tried to portray Native Americans in a negative light by use of the word Redskin.

3. And this is just me, but if Ray Hoofbighter wants the name changed so much, I would offer him this... I will change the name gladly, if you and your company foot the bill for everything involved in the change. But I seriously doubt that would ever happen as Ray is a Millionaire who latched on because he saw a chance to go after a Billionaires wallet.

I became a fan of this team in 1961, and have supported it despite my family's historical objections to the name. That said, it really doesn't surprise me that Mr. Snyder is going to fight for and IMHO lose his federal right to use the name. He's paid a lot of money for a franchise that's provided he and his family so many memories, but that personal historical perspective should not be favored at the expense of the teams history. To me it's de'ja' vu all over again if you substitute Mr. Snyder's (right to common name use) for Mr. Marshall's (right to not hire minorities) both publicly supported, one overcome by eventual propriety the other waiting to follow in its' historical footsteps.

There will be no further litigation from the plaintiffs in this case, it is being handled pro-bono, has been for the entire time it has been litigated and will not require repayment of fees or compensation in any form at its' conclusion. In as much as other legal hurdles I have no authority to speak on that.

It is not Snyder's right to use the name - they can still use it. It is about allowing others to use the name & profit from it - big difference. Anyhow - fine - whatever - change the name. You are being as melodramatic as some of the politicians with your rants. Again - very little evidence that Native Americans despise this name. All I hear from are non-Native American policians & mediots & some token Indian chief.

I am pretty tired of this issue at this time & ready to move on in any case. You just appear to be somebody who is constantly looking for a debate - reminds me of our elected officials who simply want to talk about things all the time but take no action on real issues. Hail to the Washington Whatevers.

Sty... no one gets involved in something like this without some kind of payback scenario. Some where some one see's dollar signs at the end of all this. Sadly its just the natural order of things in our country today. IM not sold that any one does anything when it comes to our legal system just based on principles.
