Looks like the US went with youth and mobility mainly on the back end, with Orpik and Suter the only returning players from 2010.

The US went with the Herb Brooks mentality, they picked the 25 players giving them the best shot to win, not necessarily the best players.
My biggest surprise not making the team was Yandle not being on the roster, he is a great player and can skate the puck out of trouble. On the larger ice surface I think that would be been key. My biggest surprise in making the team is Howard, he has been horrid this season. But he is battle tested, which is something Bishop is not no matter how well he's playing.
Not surprised to see guys like Jack and Erik Johnson left off, Poile's statement speaks for itself:
"We did not pick the 25 best players," general manager David Poile said. "We picked the 25 players we thought gave us a chance to win the gold medal."
