I've said it before, Bobby Ryan would likely require JJ, Clarkson, Merrill, and a 1st, that's a whole lot especially risking the first, but it would probably work. Kid is obviously a beast, and Anaheim isn't going to trade him.

I bet you could get Corey Perry for way, way less since he's going to be a FA. Perry is less likely to be retained between him and Getzlaf since, despite having a down year, Getz is the type of center that's so rare in this league.

I don't think the KHL thing should be held against Kovy. It was a media hyped non-story. Lou, PDB and pretty much everyone on the team said they had no problem with it, which means we shouldn't have a problem with it.

If he doesn't get it that's ok, there are a couple of deserving candidates. But the KHL thing should not be the deciding factor.

Interesting. I like Bryce, he was our best blueliner in the playoffs and I would imagine that factored into this big time (if it is indeed the case that he's captain).

And don't forget how good of a team player he was when he needed to sit out that entire season for cap reasons. I'm not saying he wasn't hurt, but Uncle Lou has a way.

Just think captain is something that shouldnt be changing every few years. Imo if your willing to give a guy 15 year deal then you should be able to trust him with the c.

Since its mostly about his russian story in a few years when bryce is gone is kovalchuck a choice then? Or will people bring up this summer?

The thing with Kovy, and I voted for him to be captain, is he doesn't need the C to be a leader much like Marty or Elias don't need the C to be leaders. When all is said and done sure they will look to Kovy for the spark, but Bryce will be out there for crucial moments and always keeps a level head as opposed to Kovy who I think can go on tilt.
