A murky day for college football got a bit brighter for those who hope to see the sport on the field in 2020 as an ACC official told CBS Sports on Monday said the conference "absolutely" intends on playing this fall. The comment from a high-ranking source within the league came after an ACC conference call with athletic directors and a similar call involving university presidents.

ACC 'absolutely' intends to play 2020 college football season after league meetings Monday

Sources: ACC Intends on Playing 2020-21 Football Season

Report: ACC “absolutely” plans to play in 2020

Babers: SU football, ACC will play on until told otherwise

This is all kinda turning into a shit show. When does the NCAA step in with recommendations? Like, "hey we should probably play in spring" or "play whenever, when it's done we'll figure out what to do with championships"...just...you know, something other than dead silence. If the ACC and SEC play, do they just end at the regular season conference champs?

No it isn't a shit show. B16 made it look this way with all the leaks. Can't put this on the ACC, SEC or Big 12.

So the shit show is looking at the B16. Is it all on them, or the media? Who knows but yesterday was a terrible look. You have coaches being outspoken, wanting to look at other options. There is no alignment.

The B10, sure, but from canceling OOC games to schedules realigning to when the play the season; the NCAA has said nothing. They look awful.

Why the NCAA doesn't control college football and never will
When people wonder why the NCAA doesn’t step in today and provide leadership as we all aim for a safe, secure and entertaining football season this fall, just look for the money trail. You won’t find it branching to the NCAA’s headquarters. That trail to Indianapolis dried up long ago. Without the money, the NCAA has no power on the logistics of a season, though the Power 5 does lean on the organization to enforce rules and compliance involving off-the-field activities. Think of the NCAA as a for-hire private security firm rather than a business partner.

It's not their place to say anything. What does the NCAA has to add that the P5 conferences don't already go over in there meetings anyway? Seem like we were sitting pretty, all the P5 conferences figured out their season, release a schedule and teams were getting back to practice but now the BIG wants to throw a curve ball

I would be fine with that. If the fucking NHL can make this work so can cfb.

First it was the MAC that threw a curveball. The NCAA should have recommended universal safety procedures to play. The NCAA should have created standards for re-scheduling games, how many games, against who, timeline to play them within (maybe extend the season end date by a couple months). To qualify for what? What are bowl games going to look like? Championship games? What qualifications need to be met to go to either now that seasons are just 10 games long in most cases? If a team goes 5-5 (.500) is that the same as a team going 6-6 and becoming bowl eligible?

If you think I won't claim VT's first every football national title if no one else but the ACC plays and VT somehow ends up winning to conference then you are sadly mistaken. LOL.

There's nothing the NCAA can say. They are as useless in this case as they always are.

The power is and always has been with the conferences, as it should be.
