I'm guessing that the Sherman deal goes like this:

Void current deal and give him an extension (or new deal).
The contract will be loaded heavily in the 1st year, and subsequent years will be lower.
He will get an overall deal making him the highest paid CB (except that 1-year Outlier of $16 Million, that Revis got).

I could be totally wrong, but since Earl is keeping his 5 million contract this upcoming season, giving more money available to RS this year. Then next offseason when Thomas will make more, Shermans salary will come down slightly.

2014 Thomas 5 million Sherman 16.1 million
2015 Thomas 10 million Sherman 13 million
2016 Thomas 10 million Sherman 13 million
2017 Thomas 10 million Sherman 13 million
2018 Thomas 10 million Sherman 13 million

Overall Thomas get 40 million 4 year extension
Sherman gets new contract totaling 68.1 million over 5 years, average of 13.62 million per year.

Thomas has ALREADY made a HUGE sum of money, and he will get even more in the next 5 years.
Sherman HAS NOT made a ton of money (per NFL standards) and will be rewarded with a HUGE 1st year to make him a rich man immediately and beat the 1 year contract that Revis had.

Just a guess, what are your thoughts.:suds:

Well Seattle really doesn't have the cap to give him $16M this year so not sure how that one is going to work out.

They can defer the signing bonus part of it over 5 years. That's how. Only have to count 1/5th of that part of it this year.

They don't? Hey, Im not a cap expert, can you show me a link that says they don't have that CAP space?
According to you, what CAP space do they have? I would like to know!

IF, and really if, Sherman is to sign a new deal in the next two weeks before the draft, what will that number be? 10 million per year, no way Sherman signs that deal. He WILL get more than Thomas only because of position. So Sherman WILL get more than Thomas, and Sherman WILL get Signed.

I think they do have CAP space to sign Sherman. But again I'm not the CAP expert, so, you SHARK might be correct, but I doubt it.

:suds:I love my SB Champion Seahawks. Tzorn still doesn't like PC. LOL.

Seahawks have just a little under $15 million now according to over the Cap.

» Over the Cap- Seattle Seahawks 2014 Salary Cap and Contracts

One thing to consider is that an extension is years added to his present contract. Sherman is signed thru the upcoming season. He would most likely want a signing bonus, which you prorate by # of years (There is a limit to the # of years), so a signing bonus would add some to this years cap, but certainly not 14 million worth.

Estimated cap is $15M, needing about $5 or so for rookies ($5-6) plus likely some other small free agent pursuits.

According to nfl.com, the Seahawks have $6,839,008 in cap space remaining, but according to sportrac.com, they have 15,006,190. Not sure which is true, but I have been using sportrac.com for my cap info all offseason.

Hawks don't have a cap issue right now people. In a year or two they might but that all depends on who is released and how these new contracts will be structured. With seeing what we have seen from PC and JS i do not see a cap issue arising on this team other than a few hard to let go players leaving next season.

My worry is about Bobby Wagner when it's time to lock him up. Will they have the wiggle room because he is starting to show he is one of the better MLB in the league.

That Revis 16 million dollar mark isn't the bar we need to compete with. It's his 12 million dollar deal with the pats this year.

Revis 16 mill with the bucs was basically a year to year contract with no guarentees beyond the first year. Shermans deal wont get him 16 mill a year,,, but it will have guarenteed money later on in the contract. Thus locking him up..... unlike Revis who was tossed aside by the bucs...

Overthecap has the Seahawks at $14.9 million in cap space. Since the Seahawks are drafting at the end of each round they should only need around $2 million for rookie signings. Most teams also like to keep $5-6 million for later FA signings then moves needed during the season because of injuries plus then being able to roll over some money to the next season. So you take those out and it gives the Seahawks about $8 million to work with.

SO, do the Hawks extend Sherman before the draft?
Well, I would have hoped so.

Too many great players, haters will hate even more, but FACT is FACT.

Sherman WILL be a Hawk, Baldwin, I LOVE Baldwin, but I'm not so sure about him (staying next year).

The CAP is a bitch. JS you earn your money and we trust you.

Schneider and the Seahawks continue to maximize results vs the cap. By NFL standards, they have a roster of players with fair contracts. Under performing vets are not allowed to continue on with being grossly overpaid. They stagger big deals so they're never caught with their pants down. They have an owner who let's the front office and coaches do their jobs.

Seahawks have a system that's working like a machine right now. Just keep doing what their doing and they'll be playoff caliber for years to come.

One thing to remember as well is that any money we don't spend this year is added to next year's salary cap. Which we will most definitely need

The CBA only allows so much carryover because teams are required to use 89% of the salary cap over 4 year periods. I dont know the exact numbers but I do know that the Hawks have carried over a fair amount the past 3 years.

Also, teams have to know what amount of money they will carry over at the very beginning of the offseason.

I get a chuckle when I imagine if Sherman was president of the United States. The Ukraine crisis and North Korea's antics would not be handled under the usual political methods.
