9-4 was majorly disappointing for Penn State this year considering they were #10/9 preseason and expected to compete for the B1G title this season. Lost to Ohio State (blown lead again) and got wrecked by Michigan.

Things are likely to get worse before they get better next season. No McSorely/Sanders, Solid blows to the OL/DL with the early entrants. Best secondary member is gone. They did have some quality young contributes this past season but I dont think overall it's there to compete for the B1G title.
I think that was the record I predicted for them at the beginning of the year. Losing as much star power from 2017 as they did, a drop was bound to come. McSorely came back down to earth, as I was figuring, but I would've thought they'd still have Miles Sanders around for next season to help soften the blow. Still not sure I agree with him going, he could've been a potential first rounder in 2020.

Shareef Miller leaving early is a tough one... he was a key disruptor.

Interested to see how Tommy Stevens and Ricky Slade takeover in the backfield. Possibly a step up from last year.

Someone at WR besides Hamler is gonna have to step up

Johnson & Thompkins were 2 & 3 behind him.....they are both gone and neither was spectacular. Polk was in that mix as well also gone

Pretty much leaves only Jahan Dotson as the only receiver with any significant experience (which is 13 catches) after Hamler

Johnson and Thomkins underwhelmed all year... addition by subtraction.

Trace was also hurt half the year and probably shouldn't have been playing in some of those games.

I haven't heard about Penn State since September.
Losing to Ohio State and Michigan State in back to back home games effectively ended any chance of them winning the division.

That’s crazy. Nobody has heard about Oregon since 2014.
Unfortunately we hear about Oklahoma every off season when they get another colleges reject QB, and than that QB tears up no D Big 12 and than Chokelahoma reappears in the first round of the playoffs.

Franklin got saved by that B10 title year but I wouldn't be shocked if he was gone in a few more seasons. He loses a generational QB and RB in back to back years and has like 2 wins against Mich/MSU/OSU. I could see him having some major issues.

In 5 years, Franklin has one win each against Michigan, Michigan St. & Ohio St.
Harbaugh is slightly better, in that he has 3 wins vs Penn St., 2 vs Michigan St. & 0 vs Ohio St. in 4 years.

overall no big singular loss, but this many kids jumping ship says something is rotten

Remember, there is a cap on how many recruits you can bring in during 1 year.

Considering Harbaugh is 5/12 against those 3 to Franklin's 3/15, Harbaugh is more than slightly better; that's a 41% winning percentage vs. 20%.

You can still hear the Sanduskian cries in the bitter winds after a loss.

Penn State was sub-standard prior to Joe Moorhead's arrival in 2016. The Nits had two good years with Moorhead as the OC in 2016 and 2017... he was the golden goose.

But now that Moorhead has taken the Mississippi State head coaching job, Penn State is back to being sub-standard.
