The whole thing stinks of "not enough playing time in the preseason," to me.

The timing is off.
The playcalling is off.
The missed assignments indicate a lack of familiarity with each other.
The tackling is off.
The amount of penalties is also an indication of lack of familiarity with each other.

Also, the playcalling and coaching in general seems to be off.

It seems as though McVay calls one awesome play/series followed by two absolutely horrific plays/series.

Example: Play to Doctson for the huge gain where Jackson draws all coverage? Absolutely brilliant. Multiple fades to least experienced redzone wr? Bush league idiocy.

Matt Jones on straight ahead runs (guts, counters) where he doesn't have to dance in the backfiend? Good plays.
Matt Jones on zone read plays? Bad calls.
Chris Thompson on 4th and 1? AWFUL call.

Additionally, Cousins looks scared of making a mistake, and rusty. So why on god's green earth would you NOT ease him into the flow of games with simple, high percentage pass plays to Reed and Doctson?

I swear, if the Redskins don't get their shit together in NY, it's going to get ugly. Like 10 loss season ugly.

This was a good analysis and I think does a better job explaining what some of us haven been trying to say. No one is making excuses for Kirk's mistakes, but the play calling has not helped KC either. I hope the staff is going back to last year's stretch run when he was hot and see what we were doing different from all aspects compared to our first 2 games this year. Its not coddling to try and put every player in the best position to be successful. I know one or two on here disagree with this. All they see is the weapons available to him, but dont look at the defense and how they are playing. He should be able to throw 20 yards down the field (or further)every time because he has such studs as receivers. Sounds great in theory. In practice it leads to forced throws and INTs because the defense is dropping 7 and 8, double teaming your 2 best, and playing a soft deep zone to take away any big plays. I've said this before, but this is an ideal situation to run the ball.

Not sure if Im included in this, but Ill try and respond. I would agree that the coaching staff needs to put people in the position to succeed. We definitely need to run the ball more.

Again not sure if it was directed at me but I am well aware of the defenses being called against us and I dont think anybody is asking us to throw bombs every play. But that doesnt mean 5 yard outs every play are good. Take the Pittsburgh game for example - I was critical of us constantly throwing underneath (both on Kirk and the playcalling IMO). The very next drive Kirk threw two beautiful downfield strikes against the same defense. I understand that teams are dropping a lot of guys into coverage but that 1) doesnt mean that we cant throw downfield and 2) means kirk shouldnt automatically get the ball out when he has all day back there.

Its not like there havent been downfield opportunities either. Weve all seen them. The reality is he does have good WRs and hes played poorly. That doesnt mean hes going to continue playing that way or that the losses are all his fault or that we shouldnt help him more with a running game. All of these things can be true at the same time. Which to be fair I think 99% of us if not all are saying. We seem to be arguing over semantics more than anything.

Yes, one of the points I made when starting this thread. Going back to old days football  you want to have the threat of the run so you can run play action passes and make the LBers believe they should honor the run instead of say "yeah right" while they drop into deep zones. Thank you Manny for agreeing.

You did make that point. I just try and add articles that add to discussion.

You do a great job of selecting articles for folks to read so they don't have to dig up the articles themselves. :thumb:
