The Hookies
Did people enjoy them? Time to bring them back? Let them die? I got a PM from Dare about them. It was quite a bit of work, but I have time in July/August and could make them happen. But if it's not worth it I don't want to bother either. What say you? (for the newcomers, the Hookies were our annual board awards for things like best post, best gif, funniest poster, etc.)

SportsHoopla NHL Convention
Moreso than other message boards I've been on, I get the sense that people really enjoy chatting with each other on here and are more friends than most other online forums. Some hang out in the "real world," though obviously most of us are 100s and 1000s of miles from one another.

I wondered if there would be any interest in a convention of sorts every 2-4 years to get together, meet, and converse. I think it would make the board more meaningful and there are certainly plenty of you I would enjoy hanging out with and getting to know for a weekend. An agenda could include something like attending a NHL hockey game and renting out a rink to play some pick up hockey with each other. It could be in a NHL city and rotate around with different groups serving as the "hosts." I could see DC, New York, Vancouver, Chicago, and some others being interesting places to do it.

What do people think? Any interest in something like this?

I love Hookies.

I will be in DC Area in November. You will have to ride your bike out to Dull Ass town center.

Sorry, Dare. I shouldn't shortchange a possible convention in Florida...

So how are we sorting this out? A team from east and a team from west?

Because I am not afraid when any of those Westies are shooting at me. And I want Sly and DevilishWon punishing anyone who gets in my crease.

By the way, I did suggest this as a potential SportsHoopla Convention site:
World's biggest pool holds 66 million gallons | Mail Online

It was shot down for fear of Comeds in a speedo.

eloco ... you need to be more forthcoming and get this out there now before anyone gets surprised

truth be told, there have been annual gettogethers and SportsHoopla NHL board conventions and the way it has worked in the past is the newbs to the boards in any given year were made to pay the airfare/travel of the existing members (in good standing) as a ... sorta ... membership fee ... then the newbs get their tshirt/gift basket presented to them at the convention (after paying for them of course)

I like the Hookies.

Last time I met someone from a messageboard I was sitting at the bar waiting for them and someone came up behind me and broke a chair across my back. She said it wasn't her, but I don't believe her.

First off, you're confusing dating sites and message boards again.

Second, I've repeatedly told you that if you keep using that picture of a young Antonio Banderas as your profile picture, you're going to have some disappointed women. ;)

Jstew... I have to say this is VERY inaccurate on your part. It's one thing to give the new guys a little ribbing, but this is totally false. Time to come clean to the newbs with the honest truth...

We make you pay for the hockey game tickets as well.

Yeah, and it's all tax deductible so you're only out about 15-20 bucks; not like about 6-10,000 bucks like you're probably thinking it's going to cost.*
