True. They already have bad starters......

How sad. He became the odd man out in L.A, as he would have been # 6 on their starter depth chart.

With a move to Minny, he just might be their # 1.

So? Nolasco, Deduno, Correia, Gibson, and ... Worley? Albers? Diamond?

VERY early word has the deal at 4 years/ $50-$52 mil, but that is very much rumor at the moment.

I think there are some real concerns if you are the Twins regarding Nolasco's performance in the AL when/if the timetable is for the Twins to contend.

He will be 31 in 2 weeks. As the Twins might not really be ready to contend for another 5 years, him still being there then would be iffy at best.

If their timetable is 5 years from now, I would bet they will try to trade Nolasco to someone within the next 2 years.

That would be smart. And, the 5 year timetable is just mine, and my opinion on how long it will take for them to build and acquire real, serious MLB talent. Now, how they do that, without mortaging their future by unloading prospects for proven players, I do not know.

Well, they do have two of the top 3 prospects in all of baseball, period. Both could theoretically be a significant boost to the offense.

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't see how this $52,000,000 is money well spent considering the dismal condition of the franchise.

I give the Twins credit for spending $ here - they've been cheap as shit the last few years and I've called them out on it - they have an owner with a lot of money, they have plenty of $ to spend, especially with a new ballpark that the owner didn't even pay for, so go out and spend some money - you have some young kids that can rake and will make their offense much better, so go out and spend some money to help the team

What Cobie said, at least they are showing they are willing to spend to build around their young guys. But I don't see this being enough, but if they can add Garza as well, then it's not that bad of a start to their rotation.

I agree that the Twins have some hitting talent on the rise. I really don't know if they have any good young pitchers coming. And, I agree that it is good that the Twins are spending on pitching.

HOWEVER,

For this to really be good and something, they will have to repeat this process 2 or 3 more times, and bring in 2 or 3 more other good to start now pitchers. And, like Nolasco, if they are only going to be a bridge between now and winning, the next signing may be Bronson Arroyo, and then maybe even Matt Garza. If they end up doing all that, then I can see a growing ray of hope for that franchise.

Seems like futility to me. Twinks have let quite a bit of talent get away in recent years (e.g., Cuddyer, Revere, Delmon Young, Nathan, and Liriano come to mind). Not really sure how spending big on a pretty mediocre SP is going to make up for all of that.

Delmon? LOL.

I'd say we let Garza get away....for Delmon.
